Position Overview: We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Automotive Recycling Technician to assist in the processing of vehicles for recycling. The technician will be responsible for testing vehicles, cleaning out interiors and exteriors, and properly draining fluids. The ideal candidate will be able to work efficiently, follow instructions, and ensure that all vehicles are properly disassembled in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Test Vehicles: Start and verify vehicle's ability to crank. If it runs, mark the windshield to indicate the vehicle has passed.
Clean Vehicles: Thoroughly clean all vehicles, including the interior, front and back, trunks, and truck beds.
Mercury Switches: Remove mercury switches from vehicles and ensure they are placed in the appropriate collection bucket.
Battery Removal: Safely remove batteries from vehicles and set them aside for transportation to the nonferrous building at the end of the shift.
Catalytic Converter Removal: Cut all catalytic converters from vehicles (both underbody and manifold) and use spray paint to mark them for proper identification.
Fluid Draining: Place vehicles on the designated drain rack and drain all necessary fluids (gas, oil, coolant, transmission fluid, and Freon). Follow proper disposal procedures.
Vehicle Processing: While fluids are draining, begin cleaning and cutting converters on the next vehicle.
Secure Residual Fluids: Once draining is complete, remove the vehicle from the rack and use appropriate plugs to secure any residual fluids that may leak.
Tire Removal: Remove all tires from vehicles and store them in the designated area.
End-of-Day Duties: At the end of the day, transport all batteries and catalytic converters to the nonferrous building. Ensure count sheets are submitted to the manager for inventory tracking.
Additional Responsibilities:
Communicate any inventory needs for markers, paint pens, or spray paint to the manager.
Follow all safety and environmental regulations for handling hazardous materials and recycling processes.
Qualifications:
Ability to operate basic automotive tools and equipment safely.
Ability to work in an outdoor or warehouse environment, often lifting and handling heavy parts.
Detail-oriented and able to follow specific instructions for parts removal and fluid management.
Knowledge of safety standards for handling automotive fluids and recyclables is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, and work with vehicles for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move automotive parts, tires, and batteries (up to 50 lbs.)
Ability to handle and use tools, including cutting tools and spray paint.
Work Schedule:
Full-time position with regular hours.
Occasional overtime may be required depending on workload.
