Hopefully youll be the next addition to our amazing school staff!TITLE: Custodian Full Time 40 Hours a Week (Hours and days scheduled to meet the needs of the district Sunday-Saturday) SALARY: As per custodian 1st shift hourly rate and 2nd shift hourly rate in the Education Support Personnel Contract for the hours worked.FUNCTIONS: Directly responsible to the Principal and Director of Building and Grounds for providing services that will afford students a clean, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place This is an important role in the functioning of our schools as the custodian prepares the school for learning and the custodian interacts with students, staff, and the community. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 1.Responsible for all general cleaning and maintenance of the building in accordance with job tasks as assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds or Principal.2.All custodians must be familiar with the provisions and regulations of the life safety code, and understand the use, operation and maintenance of all equipment specified by the code within their building(s) prior to using the equipment.3.Cleaning of classrooms, offices, corridors, stairwells, toilet facilities, shower rooms, gymnasiums, dining facilities, foyers, auditoriums, special use rooms, entrances, teachers rooms and medical facilities according to schedules. Cleaning includes but is not limited to, the following: a.
Sweeps floors, empties waste paper baskets, dusts ledges, window sills, bookcases. b. Cleans chalk boards and sets up for and breaks down after activities. c.
Washes walls, woodwork and windows, and cleans and polishes metal surfaces. d. Cleans and maintains hard and soft surface floors. e.
Wet mops and spot cleans hard and soft surface floors. f. Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes restrooms and locker rooms. g.
Cleans glass partitions, sinks and lavatories. 4.Periodic scheduled cleaning of boiler rooms, storage areas, service equipment rooms, custodial closets and storage areas as prescribed. 5.Periodic scheduled cleaning of lighting fixtures, walls, windows, furnishings, appliances, chalkboards, bulletin boards, life-safety code equipment as prescribed.6.Washes, waxes and seals floor according to prescribed procedures and schedules.7.Scheduled preventative maintenance procedures and/or minor repairs to systems and / or components within assigned areas which may include: a. Lighting: changing bulbs, replace defective switch.
b. Plumbing: clearing drains, tightening leaking joints, changing washers, etc. c. Sewerage: clearing plugged toilets, periodic treatment of sewer lines and floor drains.8.Operates heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical and mechanical systems.
Operations will be limited to turning equipment on/off and/or setting day/night cycles. 9.Requisitions and receives cleaning supplies and equipment and maintains necessary inventory under the direction of the director of building and grounds or designee.10.Snow removal, as required using hand tools, power equipment such as snowblowers and garden type tractors with attachments, and/or heavy equipment such as truck plow or tractor plow combinations.11.Administrative services such as mail pick-up/delivery, driving school vehicles, receiving of school supplies and/or equipment, shipping as required, transporting special equipment, proper display and storage of flags, setting up and removing furniture or equipment for special school events, clean up and sanitation of areas involving sick students, and assisting administration with student or visitor traffic control.12.Performs minor furniture repairs, minor repair maintenance, and minor painting. 13.Assists in insect and rodent control.14.Assists in the maintenance of lawns involving mowing, trimming, and care of shrubbery and assists in the maintenance of athletic / play areas, concrete and blacktop surfaces.15.Generally supervises the school building and grounds and assumes responsibility for general security and fire safety of the buildings which may include: a. operates security systems and secures building at the conclusion of shift, b.
secures interior rooms if found unlocked, c. places any school related items found left out in the school or on the grounds in a secure location, d. assists with evacuations and securing the facility during planned and unplanned events.16.All custodians must be familiar with the board and administration policies and regulations affecting the operation of their schools and conduct themselves at all times in a manner fully supportive of these policies/regulations.17.By conduct, appearance and manner, the school custodian shall set the highest example to students, staff and visitors.18.Assumes responsibility for observing and reporting any needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building and grounds.19.Will substitute for other custodial staff and/or work a different schedule as needed to meet the needs of the district.20.Performs other general related tasks as may be assigned or as noted in prescribed procedures.The job description is intended for our use so that we mutually understand the responsibilities of the position.
