Position Title : Lead Counselor / Shift Lead (Facility Manager)
Classification : Full-time, Permanent, Exempt
Reports to : Program Manager
The FosterHope Sacramento Temporary Shelter Care Facility provides 24 / 7 mental health support and basic care to foster children / youth in the child welfare system after removal from homes due to abuse or neglect or when transitioning between placements. We provide a safe, short-term care setting for them to be assessed, stabilized, and transitioned to longer-term placements. We provide these services in trauma-informed and culturally responsive ways.
Position Summary - The current opening is for the Overnight Shift
The FosterHope Sacramento Lead Mental Health Counselor leads the counselling team and manages the day-to-day, 24 / 7 milieu operations of the TSCF. The Lead Mental Health Counselor is in charge of leading the team to care for the children / youth in residence; supports administrative functions, communications, development, and monitoring of the facility; and ensures the programs services are of exceptional quality and in compliance with the agencys policies, procedures, and licensing regulations.
Qualifications
- Possess at least three years full-time social work experience including a minimum of one year supervising / managing in child welfare. Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist credential preferred.
- Possess a masters degree in psychology, social work, social welfare, or counseling or related field, which must be in a course relating to children with behavioral problems which may be the result of abuse, neglect, or emotional trauma from an accredited college or university OR possess a bachelors degree in behavioral or social science from an accredited college or university.
- Possess a valid California Drivers License and have a safe, registered, insured vehicle available for use on the job.
- Have First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Must meet all licensing requirements, including fingerprint clearance (DOJ, FBI, CACI), health screening clearance and submit a negative TB clearance.
- Knowledge of the requirements for providing the type of care and supervision needed by children / youth in need of foster care placement.
- Able to work effectively with others and manage personnel and program issues.
- Patient and caring attitude, ability to stay calm under pressure, concern for the wellbeing of traumatized young people, understanding of their needs and cultural differences.
- Ability to engage and communicate effectively with children / youth involved in the child welfare system.
- Lived experience is welcomed.
