JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Medical Driver

Department: Health Services

Reports To: Medical Transportation Coordinator

SUMMARY Responsible for safe transportation of residents to appointments with outside physicians, consultants, and diagnostic services in surrounding Montgomery, Bucks and Philadelphia counties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assists residents in and out of vehicles and offices, using wheelchairs or other mobility devices as needed.

Assists residents with hospital inpatient/outpatient and physician office registration procedures, providing identification and insurance information as requested.

Remains with residents during office visits, treatments, or diagnostic tests as necessitated by time schedule and residents' medical needs and/or requests.

Communicates with nurse in charge prior to transporting residents of Gwynedd House or Abington House to receive orientation to residents' special needs for assistance or equipment.

Transports medical record documentation and referral information to and from appointments when provided.

Provides service in a manner which is respectful of residents' rights.

Maintains confidentiality of residents' personal and medical record information.

Recognizes and promptly reports changes in resident condition, resident grievances

or complaints, accidents, and unusual incidents to Gwynedd House or Abington House nurse in charge or Resident Care Nurse.

In absence of Medical Transportation Coordinator, schedules appointments and notifies residents of appointment date, time, and pickup location if trained and oriented to perform these tasks by the Coordinator.

Participates in orientation of new drivers.

Establishes appropriate priorities in scheduling urgent appointments based upon needs of residents and proximity of other drivers.

Performs errands for Health Services as requested.

Checks that vehicle has sufficient fuel prior to departing for scheduled appointments.

Immediately reports all automobile maintenance warning signals, malfunctions or accidents to the Medical Driver Coordinator and if not available to the Director or Assistant Director of Maintenance.

Fills assigned vehicle with gas when scheduled to work on Wednesdays.

Consistently practices safe driving habits under all weather conditions.

Cooperates with staff of other departments in performing job duties.

Responsible for following the code of conduct that is the foundation for Foulkeways Corporate Compliance program; reporting any violations of the code or conduct of the compliance program; disclosing any personal violation of the code of conduct to the appropriate management staff ; following the policies and procedures Foulkeways has established for meeting HIPAA regulations; reporting any violations of HIPAA regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS Good communication skills. Sound mental and physical health. Ability to get along well with others, to demonstrate flexibility and patience, to function independently with minimal daily supervision, and to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, especially older adults.

EDUCATION Minimum of high school education or equivalent preferred. Prior completion of defensive driving course helpful.

EXPERIENCE Prior professional driving experience preferred. Must possess valid Pennsylvania drivers license and safe driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Capability for driving sedan, station wagon and minivan type automobiles. Capability for pushing wheelchairs, for bending and stooping to assist residents in and out of an automobile, and for lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving a wheelchair from the trunk of an automobile. Ability to see and hear, or to use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that position requirements can be fully met. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Subject to moderate physical and emotional stress associated with healthcare environments. Will be subject to adverse environmental conditions when out of doors, including extremes of temperature and highway hazards. Performance of job tasks will not involve exposure to blood and body fluids requiring precautions.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
