Position Description
An employment specialist (ES) is the school’s designated representative and liaison with Vocational Rehabilitation. The employment specialist creates and maintains the assigned student’s transition plan. The ES works individually with the student and parent to develop a plan to transition from high school to an educational
institution of higher learning, trade school, or gainful employment that will lead to a career. The ES works
collaboratively with the vocational rehabilitation counselors, the school’s director of pre-ETS services, to create
outcomes for a successful transition from high school. This position requires exceptional interpersonal and
organizational skills and a passion for championing the rights and interests of individuals with disabilities. In
addition to entering and correlating data in multiple spreadsheets, this position must deliver content to a
group of students at different intervals throughout the year.
Expectations
- Review disability documentation (IEP or 504 plan) to ensure the documents are up to date or refer the parent to update their documentation
- Meet with parents and youth to develop a transition plan after an agreement has been reached
- Upload referral and supporting documents in DVR portal and file in the digital binder
- Facilitate communication between the parent and the local VR office (this may take several attempts)
- Deliver content (teach) the SA1, SA2 and SA3 curriculum to individual or groups of students
- Ensure service referrals are signed and returned to VR within 10 business days.
- Collect, review, and submit deliverables for SA1, SA2, and SA3
- Prepare invoices for services and submit them to the VR Director for review must be submitted into the DVR portal
- Update the VR Excel with any change in status, including notes for follow-up.
- Contact graduated students who are active VR customers and enroll them in Employment Services
- Attend student orientations and Open House to promote Pre-ETS services
- Assist in recruiting worksites on a routine basis
- Write WBLE plans and agreements before students participate in pre-employment services
- Ensure students have timesheets needed to track complete work hours which align with company reimbursements
- Complete and submit final reports after all reimbursements have been completed
