Job Description:

Overview: The Banquet Captain oversees and coordinates all associates working during Banquet or Catering events. This role requires a strong understanding of event functions, service standards, and food and beverage offerings. The Banquet Captain will manage pre-event, during-event, and post-event activities, including opening tasks, table arrangements, buffet assignments, and closing duties. You will serve as the key liaison between event contacts and the banquet operations team to ensure guest satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Assess the needs of each shift, allocate resources, and communicate plans to ensure timely service delivery.
- Utilize job skill handbooks to coach and train associates consistently.
- Set daily expectations for associates using approved tools and checklists.
- Motivate associates daily to foster teamwork and deliver excellent service.
- Monitor time and attendance to meet labor budgets and adjust staffing as necessary.
- Address guest concerns following service recovery guidelines, escalating issues when needed.
- Promote our service culture to enhance guest satisfaction and positive social media engagement.
- Regularly inspect assigned areas to maintain cleanliness, safety, and guest experience standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures to prevent accidents and maintain a healthy environment.
- Conduct orientation and training for new associates on company policies and standards.
- Hold daily pre-shift meetings and enforce uniform and grooming standards.
- Assign duties to associates and inspect their work for quality.
- Greet guests professionally, ensuring their requests are met efficiently.
- Analyze Banquet Event Orders and coordinate all logistics to exceed customer expectations.
- Manage banquet budgets, including labor and supply costs, to maximize revenue and minimize expenses while maintaining quality service.
- Prepare schedules for department staff and submit for management approval.
- Conduct inventory checks to ensure adequate supplies are available.
- Participate in mandatory meetings and ongoing training to enhance supervisory skills and techniques.
- Comply with all company policies and QA standards as applicable.
- Report any unsafe conditions or practices following company protocol.
Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Prior experience as a Banquet Captain preferred.
- Familiarity with scheduling, purchase order processing, time card calculations, and expense control systems preferred.
- Degree in a related field or equivalent experience (minimum of 3 years).
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to interact courteously and professionally with guests and staff.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks within specific time constraints.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Proven leadership and direction-giving abilities.
- Analytical skills to define problems and interpret technical information.
- Mathematical skills to handle practical situations involving fractions, percentages, and ratios.
