What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2024 - 2025 District Nurse position at Fountain Hills High School?
JOB GOAL: Provide health awareness education for students, minimize absences due to illness and create a climate of health and well-being in the District schools
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES shall include, but not be limited to the following:
- Provide health care for minor injuries and ailments to all students, disperse prescribed medications
- Conduct school health services and screening for students including scoliosis, hearing and vision
- Maintain up-to-date health, medication, and accident records for all students
- Coordinate dental hygiene education for kindergarten and third grades
- Provide management and information concerning contagious diseases or conditions for school personnel, students and parents
- Recommend exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
- Monitor student homes when necessary and conference with parents as needed
- Serve as resource person in school health education, assisting in classroom instruction and coordinating classroom health and AV instructional materials
- Assist in organizing student educational programs for sexual abuse, sexual health evaluations and other identified needs
- Assemble pertinent health data and provide this information to the Child Study Team. Serve as Child Study Team member and attend scheduled meetings
- Prepare and submit reports to the Superintendent and the State Board of Health
- Participate in in-service training programs
- Requisition and maintain medical supplies within the schools
- Participate in the referral and evaluation process for placement of special education students
- Document injuries and forward necessary reports to appropriate personnel
- Perform other related duties efficiently and willingly as required by the principal, Superintendent or designee
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience
Required: Knowledge of the purpose of the school nursing program within the State of Arizona
Knowledge of general nursing procedures
Ability to drive a car, possess current driver’s license
Understanding, patient and tactful with students and parents
Knowledge of community health and social problem resources
Registered nurse with current Arizona license
Ability to work cooperatively with teachers and administrators
Current CPR and First Aide certification
