Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 250 students in grades 9–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors.
The Opportunity:
FVS seeks a passionate and organized Director of Student Activities to enhance our extracurricular programs and cultivate a positive school culture. The Director of Student Activities is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing student events, clubs, weekend activities, the house cup competition, the student activities committee, and dorm prefects— all aspects which enrich our boarding school experience. Reporting to the Dean of Community Life, this individual will work closely with students, faculty, and administrators to ensure that all activities align with the school’s mission and values.
General Duties:
- Teach one class
- Serve as a dorm head
- Participate in a class level retreat along with other faculty members
- Participate in co-leading an Interim trip (Spring experiential learning trip)
- Transportation of students to and from activities using a non-CDL school vehicle
- Serve as a member of a weekend and weeknight duty team (1 weeknight per week, and 9 weekends per year)
- In collaboration with the Dean of Community Life, develop and oversee student activities, including clubs, leadership programs, and school-wide events (e.g. dances, assemblies, spirit weeks, community service projects).
- Advise the Student Activities Committee in order to support student leadership development.
- Coordinate school traditions and weekend activities.
- Serve as a liaison between student organizations and school administration.
- Manage budgets for student activities in collaboration with the Dean of Community Life.
- Ensure that all student events comply with school policies and safety guidelines.
- Foster an inclusive and engaging environment that encourages student participation.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners to enhance student engagement opportunities.
- Serve on committees and other duties as assigned.
Other Duties:
- Coach two seasons of athletics/afternoon activities
- Serve as an adviser to a small cohort of students
- Participate in a class level retreat and help to lead a spring experiential learning trip
- Participate in committees as assigned by school leadership
- Serve as a member of a weekend and weeknight dorm duty team (1 weeknight per week, and 9 weekends per year)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in education, student affairs, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience in an independent boarding/day school environment preferred
- Experience working with high school students in a leadership or extracurricular capacity
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Experience in event planning, budgeting, and fundraising
- A passion for student engagement and community building
- Find joy in working with adolescents and in school life
- Engage with energy, kindness, and a sense of humor
- Experience enhancing classroom learning with appropriate technology
- Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relations within and across multiple constituencies

Working Conditions:
- Environment: office and indoor classroom working with some outdoor events
- Physical demands: able to sit and stand for at least 8 hours per day; must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Proficiency in LMS Blackbaud OnCampus and Google Educational Suite Apps preferred.
