ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Four Rivers Charter Public School is seeking guest teachers (or substitutes) to help fill in when the need arises for staff to take time. Affiliated with EL Education, Four Rivers is college preparatory and has a clear mission of educating young people for lives of learning and service. Located in Greenfield, MA, Four Rivers enrolls 220 students in grades 7-12 and has been in operation for over 20 years. CORE EXPECTATIONS
- Teachers are in their classrooms by 7:50.
- Teachers carry out the plans left by the classroom teacher, and leave information about anything students were unable to accomplish, so that the returning teachers knows what students have done
- Teachers hold students to the norms of our school, and model for students what behavior is expected. That is, we expect our students to be on time, to be prepared and to be kind and respectful to all members of our community, and our substitute teachers can model those norms for our students.
- Teachers engage with students and with the tasks students are given to do in class and in crew, checking to make sure students understand the work and have help if they need it. It is a given that, while in the classroom with students, teachers are not using the internet for personal business, using cell phones or engaging in activities that are unrelated to teaching and supervising students
5. Potential duty assignments in addition to covering academic periods :
a. : Teachers cover ASCs (study periods).
b. : Students are picked up by bus, parents and carpool. When teachers are assigned to dismissal duty, it is their job to be outside at 3:05 when students are dismissed until 3:15.
c.
d. : When teachers are on lunch duty, it is their job to check in the lunch line and then supervise student behavior and possibly crew clean up. Other staff will be on lunch duty at the same time and will take charge. Substitute teachers need only provide support.
6. Follow .
a. Sign out and back in to school in the main office or on the Google Doc when leaving during normal hours.
b. Take attendance in classes by following requested procedures, and let the office know if any student fails to show up.
c. Request assistance as needed.
7. Follow expectations of staff conduct and communication norms.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with students at the middle/high school level, understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents preferred
- Ability to work as a positive role model for students and be an active participant in a team approach to learning
- Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and readiness to reflect and grow.
- Works well with community members, parents, and students.
