Position Overview
Under general supervision, performs Material Balance Area (MBA) Custodian job functions as assigned by management. Typical job responsibilities include ensuring proper control, tracking, inventory verification and movement of assigned nuclear material in their assigned area to ensure in compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership policies and procedures, and managerial direction.
Duties
The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
Perform light work in the field (mostly walkdowns) to assess inventories and track materials. Work will be indoors and outdoors, in uncontrolled environments, which may result in work in hot or cold conditions, depending on the season. Will also require office work with heavy computer usage. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.
Ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two person "buddy system"), non-repetitive, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.

Duties
The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
- Perform duty of MBA Custodian for Accountable Special Nuclear and Other Nuclear Materials handled, transferred, and shipped by FRNP.
- Maintain MBA Custodian Training Qualifications.
- Maintain knowledge of DOE Order requirements related to control of Accountable Nuclear Materials and management of MBAs.
- Function as the primary point-of-contact with the MC&A Group on material control and accountability matters pertaining to the assigned MBA.
- Maintain contact with MC&A and Security groups in the event of an emergency situation in the MBA.
- Work directly with Deactivation, Waste operations, and Facility Operations personnel to ensure understanding of daily authorized work and complete nuclear material transfers as required in support of that work.
- Exercise the authority to refuse the shipment of, receipt of, or possession of NM when such would violate established policies and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of the quantity, type, and location of NM in the MBA.
- Gather data and process knowledge needed to complete accountability forms.
- Perform radiological calculations when necessary to determine if waste/material/equipment contain reportable quantities of Nuclear Material.
- Oversee the activities of NM handlers and operators in the MBA.
- Complete and sign accountability forms and other documentation required by NMC&A and/or delegate this authority to a trained Alternate MBA custodian.
- Ensure limitations are not violated for material quantity/type/assay placed on the MBA when receiving NM into the MBA.
- Participate in Regulatory, DOE Security, and NMC&A Audits as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Associates Degree or 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 6 - 9 years.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of, and experience with, nuclear facility operations
- Attention to detail
- Strong PC skills including Microsoft software
- Ability to obtain a DOE "L" or "Q" clearance
- Rad I and II Worker Training
