About the Position
The MEP Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the costs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a focus on HVAC and plumbing services. The role will review project plans, conduct detailed take-offs, and provide comprehensive bids for commercial, industrial, and educational projects. Collaborating with the Pre-Construction Team, project managers, engineers, and vendors, this role will ensure competitive pricing while maintaining quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand project requirements and scope.
- Perform detailed take-offs of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC and plumbing components.
- Provide accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Research and evaluate market pricing for materials, labor rates, and subcontractor services to ensure competitive bids.
- Develop and present multiple pricing scenarios per system component or project aspect to support value engineering efforts and client decision-making.
- Analyze and evaluate project risks, identify potential challenges, and provide mitigation strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive and well-organized proposals, bid packages, and cost estimates for client review.
- Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather pricing information and negotiate terms.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations to review estimates and provide recommendations, as needed.
- Ensure all estimating processes comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements, while accurately accounting for associated costs.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, codes, and best practices to ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by leadership to ensure smooth operations and organizational efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of experience in MEP estimating, with a focus on HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC and plumbing components.
- Proficiency with estimating software (QuoteSoft, Accubid, Bluebeam, or similar).
- Knowledge of construction industry standards, codes, and regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in MEP estimating, with a focus on HVAC and plumbing systems.
- Certifications or additional training in construction estimating, project management, or relevant fields.
- Experience with cost control and project lifecycle management.
- Advanced proficiency in estimating software and tools.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience working directly with vendors and subcontractors.
- Ability to identify and implement value engineering solutions to reduce project costs.
