Foursquare ITP is looking for qualified, motivated, passionate, and diverse candidates for a Project Manager/Senior Transportation Planner to start our on-the-ground presence in Texas. This position provides the opportunity to support company expansion and projects across the state, while contributing to a wide variety of transportation planning projects across the United States and working with some of the best and brightest in the industry.
Join our team that has been working on projects in Texas for four years and is currently:
- Serving the four largest Metropolitan Transit Authorities in the state, including conducting CapMetro’s Long Range Vision Plan, VIA’s Better Bus Plan, data analysis for DART, and several tasks for Houston METRO through our general planning contract.
- Working for TxDOT on bike/ped projects.
- Working with several MPOs on regional plans and tactical planning.
Foursquare ITP’s transportation planning work is focused in the following areas:

Regional and Statewide Planning.
BRT, Bus Priority, and Corridor Planning.

Role
The selected candidate will be responsible for leading projects and tasks in a variety of areas within sustainable transportation planning. You will be responsible for leading teams and working with clients to deliver quality work in a collaborative process. Depending on your expertise, experience, and interests, your work may be more or less focused in a particular service area or take a broad approach across multiple service areas. This is not an administrative position; Foursquare ITP senior planners and project managers must be strong transportation planners in their own right so they can develop methodology, mentor and train staff, perform business development, and contribute to analysis. Tasks may include data analysis and reporting, strategic and financial planning, performance measurement, innovative research, and meeting participation on a wide variety of transportation projects.
The selected candidate will be Foursquare ITP’s first employee in Texas and will be responsible for working with the current Texas leads to further develop relationships with partners and clients throughout the state, track potential opportunities, and lead pursuits in Texas in coordination with experts in different service areas from across the firm. It is anticipated that additional planning staff will be hired as workloads require and the selected candidate will serve as a manager for those staff.
Responsibilities will include:
Working with clients to understand their needs and deliver high-quality work that meets and exceeds their expectations.
Developing, managing, and conducting technical processes and applying broad transportation knowledge and specialty knowledge to projects.
Writing reports, technical memos, and developing and delivering presentations.
Managing projects and tasks.
Providing mentoring, training, technical direction, and expertise to less experienced staff.
Reviewing and editing work of others and providing constructive feedback.
Leading and supporting business development activities, including marketing the company’s capabilities and establishing and maintaining professional relationships.
Leading and supporting proposals.
Required Skills and Experience
In addition to having the appropriate training and skills, you must be a smart, motivated, self-starter who is passionate about transit and transportation planning and has excellent written and oral communication skills.
Requirements vary by level within the Senior Transportation Planner/Project Manager positions and range from a bachelor’s degree and seven or more years of highly relevant full-time work experience (or a related master’s degree with six or more years of highly relevant work experience) to thirteen or more years of highly relevant work experience. Additionally, the selected candidate must have:
Strong experience in one or more of Foursquare ITP’s core focus areas listed above.
Extensive experience leading and conducting transportation planning projects as a planner and as a project manager.
Experience developing scopes, budgets, and managing projects and other employees on your project teams.
Experience mentoring and training staff.
Experience with business development and marketing, including proposal writing.
Texas-based transportation planning experience and existing relationships with at least some partners and clients.

The selected candidate for this position must be located, or willing to relocate, within commuting distance to Houston or Austin.
Compensation
An individual who meets the minimum requirements can earn an annual salary of $111,000. Salary can be as much as $168,000 based on additional education, years of experience, and relevance of experience.
