What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional - Part Time position at Fourth Avenue Homes, Inc.?
Fourth Avenue Homes, Inc. is currently hiring kind, compassionate and responsible Direct Support Professionals (DSP's) to work in one of our licensed group homes in Rochester. This location has a young female resident who is high on the autism spectrum. This resident will need assistance with all daily ADL'S as well as verbal prompts and soft re-directions maybe needed throughout community activities. She is very active in the community and extra curricular activities. We are looking for staff invested in creating and maintaining independence and long term stabilization.
A DSP works in a home environment to assist individuals with disabilities with activities such as medication administration, grooming, dressing, shopping, cooking, laundry, community involvement, etc. The DSP must possess basic problem solving skills, have a strong desire to help others reach their goals, and be motivated to work as a team to improve the quality of life of the individuals served while ensuring a safe and healthy environment. A DSP must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, be able to document accurately and legibly. The ability to pass a background study and a valid driver's license (unless working overnight shifts only) is required.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Display appropriate and safe techniques in activities of daily living.
- Implementation of the person’s active treatment plans including the desired and service outcomes.
- Medication administration
- Effectively de-escalate difficult situations between person(s) served
- Perform daily duties and responsibilities as assigned, such as but not limited to: Household duties, laundry, household errands, appointments, shopping, leisure activities, etc.
Qualifications:
- Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. A DSP must possess basic problem-solving skills, have a strong desire to help others and improve the quality of life of the people they are working with.
- ABA Therapy knowledge preferred, but not required.
- Experienced in working with individuals with autism.
- Must be patient and calm with a laid back personality.
- Must be able to pass a background study
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be over the age of 18
Job Type: Part Time (Weekends, PM shifts, mid-shifts, and awake overnights).
Pay: $20.00 to $22.00 per hour based on experience
