What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Coordinator position at Fox Valley Family YMCA?
The Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of programming for the Y’s onsite Summer Day Camp program. The Coordinator will create and implement a comprehensive summer day camp curriculum, train and supervise staff, and execute retention strategies for a safe and inclusive summer day camp environment. The Coordinator must share our commitment to diversity and inclusion, demonstrate the ability to develop and relate to youth and adults of all backgrounds and levels and support our effort to create a welcoming environment.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years in supervision in a camp setting.
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are strongly desired.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Highly motivated and entrepreneurial spirit.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- High emotional intelligence, as it related to all aspects of the role.

Essential Functions
- Responsible for the overall operations of Summer Day Camp
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule, direct, supervise and evaluate personnel and volunteers for areas / assigned programs.
- Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Work closely with the supervisor to develop, manage and meet program budgets in accordance to budget specifications.
- Keep accurate and detailed records, making sure program quality meets the standards of the YMCA and any external monitoring agencies.
- Work cooperatively with the Branch leadership team.
- Develop and maintain relationships with state child care licensing agencies, school administration, parent groups and other organizations/agencies related to assigned programs.
- Attend/assist with / participate in YMCA fundraising activities, special events, committees, training, and meetings, as required.
- Participate in Program Committee and Board of Directors meetings and Branch specific meetings as required.
- Regularly communicate with supervisor to discuss lesson plans and activities, to ensure a good working relationship.
- Keep records essential for control, evaluation and reporting, regularly communicating/providing information to supervisor.
- Ensure the health, safety and well-being of program participants and staff by providing appropriate supervision at all times. Understand, maintain, and ensure that staff and participants follow safety procedures.
- Maintain hygiene habits in accordance with CDC guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with state and local regulations, as necessary or directed.
- Responds to customer and staff inquiries
- Consistently portray a professional image through dress, actions and relationships with others, and create opportunities to speak enthusiastically on behalf of the YMCA.
- Meet regularly with supervisor and direct reports, as scheduled or directed, to ensure program goals are met.
- Provide friendly, courteous service at all times.
- Contribute to a positive work environment by illustrating pride in the job, enthusiasm and cooperation with co-workers and leadership.
