RESPONSIBLE FOR DIRECTLY SUPERVISING:

JOB PURPOSE:
To assist in the planning, implementing and leading of FVSRA seasonal recreation programs for adults and children with disabilities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with children and adults with various disabilities in community recreation or related fields.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of various disabilities, and experience in planning a wide range of recreation activities.
- Experience leading and supervising part-time staff and volunteers.
- Must have good organizational skills, ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Must demonstrate dependability, promptness and punctuality.
- Be a team leader, promoting group cohesiveness.
- Demonstrate a professional attitude when working with staff, parents and community contacts.
- Be safety conscious.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Current Handle With Care Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification, or obtain within six months of hire.
- Ability to engage in activities requiring physical exertion.
- Ability to perform required duties under stressful situations without supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adhere to all FVSRA safety policies and procedures and FVSRA Policy Manual.
- Plan, implement and evaluate FVSRA recreation programs.
- Understand needs of persons with disabilities and adapt activities to enable participation.
- Ability to communicate opportunities available at FVSRA to participants, parents, the general public, and other professionals.
- Lead programs in areas assigned, and assist in preparing part-time staff and volunteers working in the assigned areas.
- Prepare and implement behavior management strategies when necessary, to ensure safe involvement in recreation programs.
- Supervise part-time staff and volunteers assigned to work in programs.
- Develop skills and abilities necessary to carry out assigned duties by attending meetings, in-service training programs and other opportunities, when required.
- Maintain constant communication and quality customer service with parents, staff, and participants.
- Demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, and take initiative.
- Responsible for collecting and turning in receipts from program expenses in a timely fashion.
- Responsible for record keeping such as attendance sheets, as well as incident and accident reporting forms.
- Provide assistance and instruction to the participants when needed.
- Complete all weekly and daily paperwork and documentation as assigned including end of season evaluations and staff evaluations.
- Report any problems or concerns to the Support Staff Manager or FVSRA Assigned Liaison.
- Communicate effectively with individuals, and large and small groups of people.
- Provide timely responses to phone calls, voicemails, and written materials, whether received by mail, facsimile, text, and e-mails.
- Solve moderate to complex problems regarding the program, participants, or supervision of part-time employees and volunteers.
- Work efficiently and effectively under pressure such as deadlines or emergencies.
- Effective use of cell phones for the performance of job assignments.
- Treat public concerns with the utmost and courteous attention.
- Record and report hours worked on a bi-weekly basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Program Leader must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to perform the following functions:
- Gather, load, transport and set-up equipment and supplies for activities.
- Supervise individuals, including at times the use of physical restraints.
- Physically assist individuals in wheelchairs by pushing, pulling or providing stabilization on unknown terrain.
- Physically transfer individuals from wheelchair to chair, into and out of vehicles, from pool deck into pool, in washroom facilities, etc.
- Lift and carry as much as 50 pounds for as far as 300 feet.
- Active participation in programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The following work environment characteristics described here are representative of those of an outdoor/indoor work environment the employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job. While performing this job, the employee is exposed to all types of lighting, weather, temperature and environmental conditions. This position also requires working in close quarters on buses during field trips with campers and in various indoor/outdoor locations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud to very loud.
FINE PRINT:
All positions are part-time and work schedules are based on your availability. Summer ONLY employees are eligible to work up to 40 hours per week. Reliable transportation is required to ensure attendance at all scheduled programs.
