Purpose Statement
The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation of special education programs and services across the district. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while providing leadership and guidance to staff. The Coordinator works collaboratively with school teams, families, and external partners to enhance student success and program effectiveness.
Job Summary
The Special Education Coordinator oversees and supports special education services, ensuring alignment with district policies and legal requirements. This position plays a key role in monitoring student progress, evaluating program effectiveness, and implementing evidence-based practices to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. The Coordinator collaborates with educators, administrators, and families to develop and maintain individualized education programs (IEPs) and ensures high-quality support for students with diverse needs.
Essential Functions
Program Oversight: Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services.
Compliance & Regulations: Ensures adherence to IDEA, Section 504, and other federal and state regulations related to special education services.
Collaboration: Works closely with building administrators, special education teachers, and related service providers to support students with disabilities.
IEP Process Management: Assists in monitoring and supporting the development, implementation, and compliance of IEPs.
Professional Development: Designs and facilitates professional learning opportunities for special education staff to enhance instructional practices.
Data-Driven Decision Making: Collects and analyzes data to evaluate program effectiveness and student outcomes.
Family & Community Engagement: Serves as a liaison between the district and families, providing guidance and support in navigating special education services.
Budget & Resource Allocation: Assists in determining and managing special education budgetary needs, ensuring appropriate resource distribution.
Due Process & Conflict Resolution: Supports staff and families in resolving disputes related to special education services and coordinates mediation as needed.
Student Transition Planning: Facilitates transition services for students moving between grade levels and post-secondary opportunities.
Staff Supervision & Support: Provides guidance and mentorship to special education teachers and paraprofessionals to ensure best practices in service delivery.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
