Position Overview
Horizons at Francis Parker will transition to Horizons San Diego, an independent 501(c)(3) on June 1, 2025. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will be an employee of Horizons San Diego. This is a year-round, part-time position (17.5 hours per week). It is preferred for candidates to be local (San Diego area), but remote/contract workers will be considered.
Horizons at Francis Parker School/Horizons San Diego is seeking a dedicated and effective Communications and Marketing Specialist with a visionary talent for creating, implementing, and evaluating the Horizons marketing and communication goals. The ideal candidate is a talented, passionate, caring professional who will work as a team player to fulfill the Horizons mission, and create a joyous, inclusive, inspiring, and educational culture. The Communications and Marketing Specialist will work with a team of educators and is supported by the Executive Director.
Requirements:Essential Job Functions:
- In partnership with the Executive Director, help develop, implement, and expand the program’s marketing and communications plan to advance the brand, mission, and program through both internal and external communications channels.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, execute marcom initiatives including social media marketing, newsletters, videos, invitations, presentations, reports and other external publications.
- Ensure brand, style, and messaging quality and consistency apply to all communications and marketing materials and publications.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, create written communications that promote the program and build connections with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to design and produce all creative materials in print and digital format, including the annual impact report, website, and other flyers, posters, and publications.
- Lead the design and development of the Horizons San Diego website and keep the website updated.
- Lead the production of all video and photo content.
- Assist with the execution of marketing and communications materials for special events hosted by the program.
- Oversee and mentor Student Volunteers in the area of marketing and communication.
- As needed, analyze the school’s customer experience for all constituents and identify areas of opportunity through use of surveys and analytics.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to communicate when a crisis or incident occurs.
- Execute communications training for all employees.
- Organize marketing and communications materials.
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate must be flexible, well-organized, capable of taking the initiative, and enthusiastic about our mission. More detailed qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor’s degree or related experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, or a related area required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of strategic marketing and communications principles.
- Proven track-record of leading an integrated marketing and communications program from concept to completion.
- High degree of proficiency with current software and technologies such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, and Google suite of products, including Google Analytics.
- Demonstrated experience with web development, social media monitoring and other mass communications and content management systems.
- Immersion in diversity work — both in training and implementation — and a commitment to fostering culturally competent and inclusive learning environments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
- Leadership experience and the ability to work as a multidisciplinary team member.
Dates:
This is a part-time Exempt or contract position (Working hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 12:00pm) starting on June 1, 2025.
Salary and Benefits:
This is a part-time Exempt or contract position. The pay rate range is $2,502.50 - $3,400.00/month, depending on experience. This position is not eligible for benefits. Salary is based on experience.
