Position Description
The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) supports the development of the bedside nurse, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. The CNE supports staff through staff development as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, and leader. The CNE works and collaborates with the nursing leadership team and facilitates the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education and leadership development.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides educational activities are congruent with Franciscan Childrens mission, goals, values, priorities, and resources.
- Works in conjunction with the professional nursing staff to identifying needed changes and updates in nursing practice that are dynamic, evidenced based and responsive to the environment of care.
- Serves as a clinical expert in pediatric nursing practice
- Collaborates on a regular basis with the charge nurses to develop, coordinate and evaluate orientation program
- Works collaboratively with the Senior Director of Nursing, Nurse Managers and peer group to identify, educate and continuously develop nursing preceptors
- Through individual coaching encourages staff development to attain and exceed their predicted capacities and greatest potential
- Provides educational activities that contribute to professional development from novice to expert based on learning needs of staff using adult learning principles and a sound clinical nursing knowledge base
- Utilizes evidence based research to identify strategies for improving professional development activities, nursing practice, and patient outcomes.
- Educates staff on new products and participates in QI of products and procedures
- Focuses on development of critical thinking skills by teaching and encouraging staff to problem solve independently and with the interdisciplinary team
- Collaborates with Nurse Managers to ensure staff is supported in clinical practice and individual professional goals are met. (i.e. charge/precepting)
- Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning, delivering, and managing nursing professional development activities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- BSN required, Masters degree in nursing or related field is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years Pediatric experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated interest in continuing education, professional development and nursing research
- Has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served
- Has specialized skill in maintaining, operating, and monitoring complex equipment
- Enhances bedside nurse education through individualized mentoring; to teach and define best practices and standards
- Demonstrate strong leadership skills and good organizational skills
- Have a working knowledge of nursing theory and the practice of Family Centered Care
- Collaborates with senior nursing management to coordinate care, manage resources, oversees safety and quality
- Lead, support and build on current efforts of various groups working within the organization to support the mission
- Understand and maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPPA for patients and employees
- Exhibit an attitude, which promotes harmony and goodwill among patients, caregivers, and co-workers
- Communicates clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
- Use sound decision making and critical thinking skills
CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION, OR LICENSURE REQUIRED BY THE JOB
- Licensure as a Massachusetts registered nurse
- Certification in CPR and PALS
