Position Description
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Utilizes validated tools for assessment of nutritional status to determine need for nutritional intervention.
· Analyzes anthropometrics, biochemical data and pertinent findings on physical exam to devise appropriate interventions.
· Maintains communication between patients, families and the medical team with regards to assessment findings and desired interventions. Implements interventions in cooperation with the patient, family and medical team.
· Documents and reports pertinent patient information in an accurate and timely manner.
· Maintains expected productivity standards.
· Provides continuity of coverage in emergency situations. Covers other service areas as directed by supervisor
· Provides clinical supervision to dietetic interns, students, and other staff members as requested by the supervisor or director. Acts as a resource in area of expertise.
· Demonstrates proficiency in medical nutrition therapy for all age groups between 0 and 21 years.
· Successfully completes Hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements.
· Other essential duties may be assigned as necessary to the operations of the department.

· Maintains competency in current formula availability and implications for practice.
· Correctly interprets biochemical data and comprehends nutrition related implications.
· Recognizes pertinent physical findings that impact nutritional evaluation and intervention.
· Demonstrates the ability to organize a caseload and prioritize care based on nutritional acuity.
· Maintains confidentiality of patient and caregiver information.
· Engages in ethical treatment as delineated by CDR.
· Demonstrates professional and courteous behavior.
· Provides compassionate care to patients and families.
· Communicates effectively with other team members.
· Participates in department quality assurance activities.
· Maintains a safe and orderly work environment.
· Accepts specific non-patient care related duties within the department.
· Attends and participates in hospital in-services, workshops and professional conferences in order to maintain current knowledge in the field.
· Attends and participates in staff meetings.
