Mental Health Specialist (full-time, rotating schedule)

Mental Health Specialists act as a member of a multidisciplinary clinical treatment team to provide therapeutic care and create an environment of hope for children, teens, and families. They develop an understanding of psychiatric trauma and crisis intervention, and apply this to daily interactions in therapeutic group, school, recreational, and daily living situations. The successful candidate will interact with residents in a therapeutic manner that facilitates adaptive coping and life skills through implementation of treatment plan goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Plan and implement social and recreational activities for children.
• Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
• Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Franciscan Children’s.
• Provide a therapeutic milieu environment for children, maintaining a safe and healthy environment; and meeting the physical needs of children.
• Implement treatment protocol established in children’s treatment plans and individual crisis management plans.
• Properly attend to administrative functions of childcare, including attending required meetings, completing assigned oral and written report writing tasks.
• Directly supervise children.
• Apply Franciscan Children’s model of childcare, including crisis prevention and intervention methods, and physical restraint.
• Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively.
• Ability to respond to emergencies quickly and safely.
• Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment.
• Must be able to understand and apply principles taught in training and seminars to the milieu, including crisis prevention and intervention skills.
• Must be able to participate in activities with children.
• Requires the ability to perform therapeutic physical intervention.
