The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota, are beginning a search for an Environmental Services Manager. The Manager facilitates the maintenance of a healthy, hospitable living environment for the sisters and guests at the Motherhouse campus located in Little Falls, MN.
The role is responsible for oversight and maintenance of all Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls properties (building and grounds). Responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of all activities of the Environmental Services, Maintenance and Transportation Departments in accordance with the Franciscan Sisters philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards.
Minimum of three - five years’ experience in environmental services background. Previous supervisory experience is required. Knowledge of and experience practicing sustainability in caring for the land/grounds and in building maintenance is preferred. Requires a valid Minnesota drivers’ license with clean/acceptable driving record, passing State Department of Human Services background study.

SUPERVISOR: Motherhouse Director
A. Description of Role
The Environmental Services Manager is responsible for oversight and maintenance of all Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls properties (building and grounds). Responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of all activities of the Environmental Services and Transportation Departments in accordance with the Franciscan Sisters philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards.
B. Major and Minor Tasks
1. Knows and demonstrates the Franciscan Values while performing all job functions. Demonstrates values with other staff, volunteers, clients, and visitors. Franciscan Values: Respect, Compassion, Hospitality and Open Communication.
2. Upholds and fulfills the mission and philosophy of Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls in all areas of communications and public relations, whether written, spoken or observed.
3. Understands and carries out the philosophy, policies and procedures and insure department employees’ adherence to them.
4. Assists with and practices methods, when possible, of sustainability of the land/grounds and building maintenance that fit with the Franciscan charism of caring for creation using methods that are gentle to the earth and surrounding wildlife.
5. Responsible for maintenance and maintenance records of all FSLF properties; travel to off-campus properties as needed.
6. Check the daily work schedule to ensure all areas are covered, adjust assignments when necessary for groundskeeping, maintenance, housekeeping, and transportation staff.
7. Responsible for keeping accurate records of when areas/rooms are house cleaned, floors stripped, and rooms painted.
8. Responsible for inspecting all areas for cleanliness and compliance with sanitary conditions. Communicate with Environmental Services personnel on activities and/or problems.
9. Responsible for and coordinates purchasing of maintenance and housekeeping supplies within budgetary guidelines and oversees payment of bills per policy.
10. Oversee the outgoing of soiled laundry and distribute the clean laundry.
11. Is responsible for all aspects of department personnel including scheduling, interviewing, hiring, orientating, supervising, evaluating, and terminating.
12. Prepares the financial budget for areas of responsibility, including the Environmental Services department and Community Gardens. Approves the departmental budgets of departments which report to the Environmental Services Manager.
13. Make decisions regarding replacement and repair of equipment. Instructs personnel in safe and effective use of equipment. Maintains records of maintenance requests.
14. Coordinates review of vehicle fleet and purchase of necessary vehicles. Consults on repairs, as requested by the Sisters or the Transportation Coordinator.
15. Assists with transportation, snow removal, lawn mowing and preparing/closing of graves as needed.
16. Chairperson of the Fire Safety Committee and conduct monthly Fire Drills in various buildings. Assists with Emergency Preparedness/Disaster policies and procedures.
17. Develops and updates departmental job descriptions, job duties, policies, and procedures as needed.
18. Attend various committee meetings as requested.
19. Attends monthly Motherhouse Managers/Supervisors meeting.
20. Regularly meets with the supervisor.
21. Updates safety data sheets of all chemicals used in/by the department.
22. Performs other duties as required.
C.
A) High school diploma or equivalent is required.
B) Minimum of three - five years’ experience in environmental services background. Previous supervisory experience is required. Knowledge of and experience practicing sustainability in caring for the land/grounds and in building maintenance is preferred.
C) Valid Minnesota Driver’s license required with clean/acceptable driving record.
D) Must be able to keep accurate records, can plan, budget and perform a variety of administrative duties. Must have effective communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to efficiently operate Windows based computers and MS Office Software.
E) Must show considerable initiative and judgment in performing duties, delegating responsibilities, and resolving problems. Frequently prioritizes, schedules and complete work using independent judgment. Demonstrated leadership and human relation skills. Must be able to assert his/her own authority with tact and courtesy in relating to Sisters, visitors, employees, and others.
F) Motor coordination is necessary to operate the equipment used in the department. Manual and finger dexterity is necessary to reach for, handle, lift and carry supplies and equipment.
G) Work indoors and work with household cleaning chemicals. Use safe working procedures for wearing proper PPE, safety data sheets and other safety equipment as needed.
