Maintenance Assistant (Senior Living Community)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Maintenance Assistant to join our team.  The ideal candidate will help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for our residents, ensuring that our facilities are in excellent condition.  This role requires a compassionate approach to service, particularly in assisted living and memory care settings.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for senior care and creating meaningful experiences for older adults.

Maintenance Assistant Profile

·         Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks for the community, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry work.

·         Facilitate painting, minor repairs, and maintenance of common areas and resident apartments.

·         Ensure compliance with safety stands and regulations, reporting any hazards or maintenance needs to the Maintenance Director.

·         Assist the Maintenance Director in regularly scheduled preventative maintenance.

·         Assist the Maintenance Director with apartment updates, furniture movement, and other basic building maintenance.

·         Conduct regular safety checks and maintain records of maintenance activities.

·         Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for community events and activities.

·         Collaborate with staff to ensure environments are conducive to resident engagement and safety.

·         Assist with outdoor maintenance, including general upkeep of grounds.

·         Support janitorial staff as needed to maintain cleanliness in common areas.

·         Build rapport with residents, responding to their maintenance-related requests promptly and respectfully.

·         Assist residents with minor issues while maintaining their dignity and independence.

Education / Training / Experience:

·         High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications in maintenance preferred.

·         Previous experience in maintenance or facilities management, preferably in senior living environment.

·         Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and general repair techniques.

·         Strong problem-               solving skills and attention to detail.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Compassionate, patient, and respectful attitude towards seniors.

·         Excellent communication skills and a customer service-oriented mindset.

Physical Requirements

·         Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

·         Capability to perform physical tasks, including bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for extended periods.

Work Environment

·         Primarily indoor work with some outdoor duties.  May be required to work evenings or weekends depending on community needs.
