About the job
The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day direction and administration of all operational practices at our warehouse facilities located in Barrie, ON. This includes but is not limited to production planning, materials management, staffing, inventory controls, shipping and receiving. Develops methods to measure department performance and ensures that development/improvement programs are in place where necessary.
Your tasks
- Manages the efficient utilization of plant and production assets including materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and parts within developed budgets.
- Plans and coordinates work flow to ensure production objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
- Coordinates and assists with the appropriate department(s) and/or person(s) to ensure customer requests and/or needs are met.
- Provides supervision, direction, development, and leadership to employees to ensure satisfactory performance and goals are met.
- Implements and manages standards, policies, and procedures that align with department and corporate goals.
- Manages productivity levels of all workers to ensure maximum quantity and quality.
- Plays a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence.
- Manages housekeeping so that the plant is clean, safe, and well-maintained using LEAN 5S methodology.
- Responsible for the processes, documentation, implementation, and test procedures to maintain production operations and high quality standards as well as continuous improvement.
- Accountable for the safety of all production employees by enforcing established health and safety policies.
- Coordinates with Human Resources, all aspects of employee relations including, but not limited to, employee interviewing, hiring, coaching, counseling, disciplinary action, complaints, scheduling, training and development, etc.
- Reliable attendance is a must.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Customer Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Production and Processing — Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, regulations, and strategies to promote a safe environment.
- Transportation — Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits
- Intermediate Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Intermediate Math Skills - Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Very High Reasoning Ability – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Computer Skills- Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, Lotus Notes,
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a warehouse And distribution environment
- Specialized Training: Forklift Certification, First Aid/CPR preferred.
- Previous experience with logistics suppliers would be considered an asset
