ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assumes full management responsibility for departmental engineering activities including planning, research and development, engineering, design and construction management; CAD and GIS programs; automation improvements; recommends and administers policies and procedures.
- Develops and manages departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work plans.
- Provides technical oversight and administrative direction to engineering personnel involved in the design, modification and construction of electric facilities, and the acquisition and modification of equipment.
- Assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; reviews and evaluates work methods and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.
- Assesses and monitors workload; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs and implements changes.
- Plans, organizes, assigns, administers, directs, reviews, and evaluates departmental CAD and GIS programs and activities.
- Performs planning activities for future expansions or upgrades to existing systems.
- Monitors developments and legislation related to assigned areas of responsibility; evaluates impact upon company; recommends and implements procedural improvements.
- Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates assigned personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.
- Prepare and administer electric engineering budget. Participates in the development and administration of the overall electric budget by projecting revenues and estimates for capital improvements, additions, and extensions. Approves expenditures on capital projects and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate and necessary.
- Represents the Electric Engineering Department to other departments, elected officials and outside agencies; coordinates assigned activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations. Participates on a variety of boards, commissions and committees as an electric representative for the company.
- Provides technical assistance and industry knowledge to the Director of Electric.
- Attends Board meetings; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence to the Board as necessary.
- Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of relevant engineering disciplines.
- Provide policy and tariff changes to the Board for consideration.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an institution accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET), plus 9 to 10 years related experience and / or training, and 5 years related management or project management experience. Registration as a professional engineer in the state of Kentucky or the ability to obtain the registration within six months from the date of hire.
Position is subject to Electric Department Travel Time Policy, which limits travel time by motor vehicle from your primary residence to the FPB Service Center to within thirty (30) minutes. This position will also be subject to after-hour trouble calls to support electric operations.
