Job Summary And Qualifications
The Respiratory Therapy (RT) Student/Extern provides patient treatment within the various common modalities of respiratory care under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. Assists staff by caring for patients, in accordance with the RT Extern’s skills/training and the needs of the department, performing clerical tasks and duties as outlined by the TN Respiratory Care Board. Supports and promotes quality care and customer service initiatives by demonstrating competency, knowledge/skills and adhering to the Code of Conduct and Mission/Value Statement.

Job Summary And Qualifications
The Respiratory Therapy (RT) Student/Extern provides patient treatment within the various common modalities of respiratory care under the supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. Assists staff by caring for patients, in accordance with the RT Extern’s skills/training and the needs of the department, performing clerical tasks and duties as outlined by the TN Respiratory Care Board. What you will do in this role:
- In this role, you will provide basic patient care including but not limited to oxygen delivery systems setup/ humidity administration, small volume nebulizer therapy, equipment cleaning/ setup, metered dose Inhaler administration, chest physiotherapy with suctioning, assisting with specimen collection and patient education.
- You will perform equipment processing of respiratory equipment: Disassemble, clean, assemble, and test all respiratory equipment according to department policies and procedures.
- Your will educate patient/family/caregivers on disease management, prevention and identify barriers to learning.
- You will ensure quality care by maintaining technical, clinical competency as required for each modality.
- You will provide/maintain an adequate inventory of oxygen gas cylinders in department and patient care areas.
- You will promote a safe environment by adhering to safety/health requirements and maintain a clean/organized work area.
- You will demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patient/customer needs appropriate to the ages of patients/customers served as per Scope of Service.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Student Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Vocational School Graduate
- High School Graduate / GED
