Duties and Responsibilities
Drafting & Design
- Develop detailed shop drawings and production blueprints for custom and semi-custom cabinetry using CAD software (e.g., Cabinet Vision and 2020).
- Create 2D and 3D renderings to provide clear visual representation of cabinet designs for internal teams and customers.
- Ensure all drawings meet company standards, production capabilities, and client specifications.
- Revise and update drawings based on customer feedback, manufacturing limitations, or material changes.
- Translate architectural plans, design concepts, and customer specifications into precise manufacturing instructions.
- Optimize cabinet designs for production efficiency, material utilization, and cost-effectiveness.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure seamless transitions from design to fabrication.
- Identify and resolve potential design issues before production begins to minimize errors and rework.
- Select appropriate materials, hardware, and construction methods for each project.
- Maintain a library of standardized cabinet components and configurations to streamline design processes.
- Collaborate with procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure material availability and alignment with production capabilities.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, building codes, and customer requirements.
- Conduct quality checks on drawings and production plans to minimize errors in fabrication and installation.
- Support troubleshooting efforts on the shop floor by providing technical expertise and revised drawings as needed.
- Work closely with sales, project management, and installation teams to ensure alignment of design intent and execution.
- Provide technical support to clients, architects, and designers as needed.
- Maintain organized records of all drafting and engineering work for future reference and revisions.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3 years in cabinet drafting, woodworking design, or a related field.
- Software Proficiency: Strong experience with CAD-based cabinet design software such as Cabinet Vision, Microvellum, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of cabinet construction, joinery techniques, and material specifications.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical skills to anticipate and resolve design and production challenges.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in technical drawings and specifications.
- Communication Skills: Ability to clearly convey design intent to production teams, project managers, and clients.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
