Purpose of Position

The purpose of the position is to contribute to a strong, supportive, and productive team environment; employ effective supervision strategies for assigned offenders placed on community control by the Court and approved for in / out-of-state supervision transfer; and, monitor adherence to, and completion of, all standard and special conditions for non-reporting and low-risk offenders with minimal disruption to prosocial protective factors. To successfully fulfill the essential job functions, one must be able to interact with accused and / or convicted criminal offenders using evidence-based practices.

Essential Job Functions & Competencies

  • Promote and adhere to the Vision, Mission, and Core Principles and Values of the Probation Department;

  • Provide positive reinforcement to, and build rapport with, offenders;
  • Assess offender risk level to determine recommendations for the appropriate level of supervision and area of needs;
  • Correspond and collaborate with originating supervision agency, Interstate Compact entities, community resource providers, and collateral contacts concerning offender's progress;
  • Supervise and provide caseload management for assigned offenders through the Court, as well as other jurisdictions accepted for compact supervision;
  • Utilize the Interstate Compact Offender Tracking System;
  • Adhere to Interstate Commission for Adult Offender Supervision policies and procedures;
  • Monitor and assess the offender's compliance with Court-ordered conditions which includes contact with the offender, the sentencing county probation officer, attorneys, law enforcement, employers, treatment providers, the Court, family, community agencies, and interstate compact officers;
  • Monitor random drug screens of offenders;
  • Monitor compliance with financial obligation requirements;
  • Prepare summaries and Court documents regarding the offender for the Court's review;
  • Appear in Court;
  • Manage caseload using a case management system;
  • Develop and sustain a productive working relationship with local law enforcement and aid in the facilitation of the extradition process;
  • Maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations;
  • Respond courteously to inquiries;
  • Maintain proficiency and applicable certification with all job and training requirements;
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending professional training and conferences;
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule while exhibiting regular and predictable attendance;
  • Maintain professional conduct and attire;
  • Maintain effective lines of communication with all staff and stakeholders;
  • Promote and adhere to departmental policies and procedures;
  • Maintain confidentiality of department information; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions :

  • Performance of essential functions requires interaction with accused and convicted criminal offenders;
  • Ability to learn and implement evidence-based practices in the field of community corrections including effective interventions / supervision strategies;

  • Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work; tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation. This position may involve infrequent lifting, carrying, running, pushing, and / or pulling of objects and materials of moderate to heavy weight (50 pounds).

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field, or equivalent experience (applicant may substitute 2 years of related experience for each year of required education);
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Driver's License
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • One-year experience involving :
  • community supervision of offenders (probation, parole);

  • counseling; or
  • maintaining a caseload in a case management setting.
