What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Extern - Temp position at Franklin County Memorial Hospital?
Allows the nursing student the opportunity to experience hands on nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, through RN delegation of specific tasks and procedures within the realm of the Nurse Extern, under the direct supervision of the RN.
Position Summary
The student nurse extern works under the direct supervision of the extern preceptor. The extern provides patient care which have been previously learned/demonstrated in the nursing program in which enrolled. The student nurse participates in patient and family teaching. The student extern works cooperatively with other clinical teams.
Position Qualifications
The student extern must be enrolled in an approved program and have successfully completed one academic year of clinical courses in nursing. The student extern must be in good standing with the nursing school. The extern must agree to perform only the approved on the clinical procedures and activities on the skills checklist. The student extern must authorize Franklin County Memorial Hospital to exchange information related to the student nurse record, externship application, pre-employment screening, performance as an extern and any other relevant information.
The student extern must hold a current Basic Life Support card.
The student extern must be in good health and have good stress coping abilities. Must have the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with patients, families, and other health team members. Must possess visional acuity for accurate reading of patient records and equipment.
The student extern observes Universal precautions and use protective devices when performing task that are likely to cause exposure.
