The Franklin County Facilities Management Department is currently recruiting for the position of Facilities Management Worker. An employee in this class performs a variety of tasks involving semi-skilled and unskilled manual work in the maintenance of buildings and grounds. Work involves custodial duties relating to trash removal, floor maintenance, inventory management and supply delivery; grounds work duties involving general landscaping, parking lot inspections, debris removal, storm cleanup and snow and ice removal; and building maintenance involving assisting Technicians with various work duties, moving furniture and room set up, and maintaining the exterior of the buildings. Employees must abide by safety rules and regulations and use care and accuracy in handling chemical cleaning supplies. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, and hazards associated with maintenance work, fumes, chemicals, mists, gases, and oils. Duties may also expose the employees to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is assigned daily, is supervised by the Facilities Management Superintendent or designee, and is reviewed by observation of quality and quantity of work completed and timeliness of completion.Duties and Responsibilities
- Custodial duties include maintaining shop and warehouse equipment; floor work to include stripping and waxing floors and shampooing carpet; coordinating trash pickup daily for custodians; organizing inventory for maintenance and custodial supplies, making supply order request, and making supply deliveries; may fill in and participate with custodial duties in the absence of the custodian or as needed to maintain the cleanliness of the facilities.
- Grounds work includes general landscaping duties to include cleaning of the grounds, planting/replanting of plants, blowing leaves as needed, cutting grass and trimming, mulching flower beds, watering flowers and trees, pruning plants and vegetation, picking up trash, treatment for insects; storm cleanup and snow and ice removal; stormwater inspections and maintenance at County owned facilities and parking lots; clearing of roofs from debris at county facilities; sealing of concrete and asphalt cracks and curb maintenance in county owned parking lots and sign maintenance at all required locations to include painting, change out and cleaning.
- Building maintenance includes assisting Technicians with performing repair and installation in the following areas: painting, plumbing, sheetrock, carpentry, HVAC, welding and electrical work; pressure washing county facilities and washing exterior windows; may assist in moving furniture and setting up rooms for clients or activities; assists with maintaining building key inventory within the Facilities Management Department for the various County buildings; and surplus inventory pickup, storage and disposal.
- Must be able be able to work after hours events as needed.
- Must be able to work call back emergencies.
- Considerable knowledge of methods, cleaning chemicals and supplies, and equipment used in semi-skilled and unskilled building maintenance work and grounds maintenance work.
- Working knowledge of safety equipment and procedures required in performance of duties.
- Working knowledge of various hand tools such as shovels, rakes, picks, brush axe, pruning shears and chain saws.
- Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, occupational hazards, and related safety precautions in the work.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to use varied equipment required in performance of duties.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, and the public.
- Ability to use phone, tablet, and computers to respond to emails and work orders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment.
- Must possess an appropriate valid North Carolina driver’s license upon hire.
- Completion of Chemical Use training, MSDS training, Defensive Driving training, HIPPA training, Safety and Health training, Fire training, Ladder and Scaffolding training and Hand Tools training within six months of hire.
- May be asked to obtain a NC Pesticide Applicator license.
