General Statement of Duties
An employee in this class serves as a customer service representative in the Tax Assessor's Office. An employee in this class is responsible for data entry of new construction, entering permits, discoveries of real property, and assisting with listing personal property. Accuracy is required in entering data into the computer. Some independent judgment and initiative must be exercised within limits of prescribed policies. Tact and courtesy are essential. Superior customer service is required. Work is performed under the supervision of Tax Assessor Supervisor and is evaluated by observation, use of records, and through employee evaluations.
Duties and Responsibilities / Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Essential Duties and Tasks
Responsible for data entry of new construction, sketching commercial and residential buildings.
Responsible for data entry of building permits.
Prepares work packets for Appraisers.
Sets appointments during appeal process.
Answers public's questions on property valuations, listings, tax bills, and other records.
Processes incoming and outgoing mail and emails.
Performs clerical work, creating spreadsheets for a variety of reports, preparing and copying forms and answering the telephone.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the procedures, records, and forms used in the tax collection, listing, and evaluation processes.
Knowledge of State laws and local policies regulating the tax assessment and collection functions.
Ability to make arithmetical calculations.
Proficiency with Excel and Word required.
Ability to operate a variety of office machines, such as a computer, printer, and copy machine.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other departments, employees, co-workers, and the general public.
Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
Desirable Education and Experience
High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) year of experience in customer service, public service, or general office or clerical assistance; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Other Information
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license upon hire.
Must obtain Fundamentals of Tax Listing and Assessing Certification within two years of employment.
