What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tube Rentals Staff position at Franklin County, VA?
GENERAL DEFINITION
This individual performs responsible work in a public setting involving supervision of tube rentals facility. Performs duties that will provide users with tubes and safety information to make their experience as enjoyable as possible. This position is also responsible to see that the facilities are maintained during the course of the activity and are used in a responsible manner.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Work is performed under the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Manager or his/her designee. Work will be on a part-time seasonal basis. The average workload will be 10-20 hours per week.
TYPICAL TASKS
- Maintains a safe environment for participants.
- Communicates and works closely with other co-workers, volunteers, staff, and members of the general public.
- Uses tact and courtesy when communicating with the public. Serves as the Recreation Department’s ambassador to participants and park users.
- Provides accurate and detailed written documentation of incidents involving participants and safety considerations / risk management.
- Collects fees and appropriate paperwork and delivers them to the designated drop off location.
- Arrives at the facility at least thirty minutes prior to renal opening and is the last to secure the facility and make sure all tube renters have returned items and are off the water.
- Completes accident reports on all accidents that occur at the assigned facility and delivers them to the Outdoor Recreation Manager or his/her designee.
- Makes weather related river evacuation decisions and enforces storm policy.
- Polices the area to ensure general cleanliness and policy compliant users.
- Remains at rentals building throughout the time of rentals and does not leave the facility unlocked while open.
- Maintains an appearance reflective of the Recreation Department’s professionalism.
- Communicates a consistent message emphasizing the value of safe participation.
- Collects fees (at Waid Park Tube Rentals Building) and records the number of tube rental patrons.
- Makes deposits for monies collected (at Waid Park Tube Rentals Building).
- Is a full partner with the Recreation Department’s fulltime staff in the delivery of high quality public recreation.
- Work may include special events and other duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITITES
Basic knowledge of river safety and customer service/fee collection. Ability to work well with others, manage and address conflicts and maintain a positive environment. Outstanding conflict resolution skills are critical. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Outstanding customer service skills are mandatory. Must pass a criminal background history check.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, combined with experience in working with the public. Must possess a current Virginia Driver’s License. Must be at least 16 years of age. Rate of pay is $12.50 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties are performed in an outdoor/indoor environment.
