What are the responsibilities and job description for the Zoning Code Enforcement Officer position at Franklin County?
NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision, inspects permits and properties within Franklin County to ensure compliance with Unified Land Use Regulations. Provides assistance to the Building Department in enforcing certain Building Codes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Conducts physical inspections of County areas to determine compliance with established codes and regulations standards for zoning, building, subdivision, and floodplain; prepares forms and letters advising property owners of violations; conducts follow-up inspections as needed.
- Reviews and approves building permits for zoning and floodplain compliance; monitors use of property permitted or prohibited used.
- Inspects Conditional Use Permits to verify compliance; notifies the permitted in writing if the conditions are not being met; takes necessary steps needed to correct or implement conditions; initiates the permit revocation process if permit violations are not corrected within established timeframe.
- Provides information and technical assistance to members of the general public, property owners, developers, and their representatives; addresses and works to resolve citizen complaints.
- Maintains pending enforcement files to be re-inspected upon deadline dates.
- Prepares and maintains various reports and records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in a standard office environment and involves sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending reaching, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. Some field work is required which includes exposure to all weather conditions.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Associate’s degree in Drafting, Architecture, Construction or related field; AND three (3) years of experience.
Must possess a valid State driver’s license.
May be required to obtain and maintain Public Notary certification.
