Electronics Hardware Engineering Intern - Summer 2025

Description

Responsible for designing, testing, and verifying power electronics hardware for VFDs including power supplies, power factor correction (PFC) circuits, and 3-phase inverters. Additional areas of focus include hardware design for embedded systems, wired and wireless communications, analog circuits, PCB layout, and component selection. Provides additional technical support as needed.

This role will start in May of 2025.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in product development and innovation projects.
  • Create hardware simulations of existing and new designs in MATLAB and Spice tools.
  • Update existing products with new design standards and technology.
  • Design and validate standard hardware designs.
  • Develop standard validation tests procedures for common circuits.
  • Complete product testing as needed using industry standard test equipment.
  • Assists in analyzing returned materials.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

  • Desire to do hands-on testing / troubleshooting of circuits.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to document design decisions and create testing strategies that verify functionality.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate small hand tools (e.g., pliers, screwdrivers, hammer, wrenches, etc.), power tools and test / inspection equipment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical / electrical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with circuit design layout - preferred.
  • Electronics trouble shooting experience - preferred.
  • Familiarity with PCBA, CAD tools (Altium or another PCB design tool) - preferred.
  • Programming / Simulation (MATLAB, LTspice, Simulink, LabVIEW) - preferred.
  • Education and Experience

  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Sophomore or Junior status in college.
  • Computer Skills

  • Intermediate : Spice Simulation, MATLAB
  • Basic : MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
