Mechanical Engineering Technician Intern

Description
Responsible for testing and verification of pumps for DOE efficiency compliance.  Additional areas of focus include evaluation and root cause analysis work on returned motor and pump products. Provides additional technical support as needed.

This role would be an immediate start and part-time with it transitioning to full-time in the summer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete product testing as needed using industry standard test equipment.
  • Verify and organize test data for use by engineering team.
  • Participate in product development and innovation projects.
  • Assist in analyzing returned materials. 
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Skills and Abilities
  • Desire to do hands-on mechanical product testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate small hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment (e.g., power supplies, and data acquisition systems)
  • Ability to follow industry and company safety guidelines.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Demonstrated mechanical/electrical problem-solving skills
Education and Experience
  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Freshman or Sophomore status in college.
Computer Skills
  • Intermediate: MS Excel
  • Basic: MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint)

    • Continually required to talk or hear. 
    • Regularly required to sit.
    • Frequently required to stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
    • Occasionally required to climb or balance and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and an ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  • While performing the functions of this job, the employee is:
    • Regularly subjected to work near moving mechanical parts.
    • Occasionally subjected to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
