What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Teacher position at Franklin Elementary School?
Supervisor: Employed by the Board of Education and responsible to the principal and ultimately to the superintendent.
Job Objective: The primary role of the elementary teacher is to provide students with the environment, materials and instructional
expertise necessary to enable them to appreciate school in all diversity and to develop their creative powers, problem solving
abilities and craftsmanship. To help your students think and work independently, learn the subject areas taught at or above grade
level and grow as people in and out of the classroom. The teacher will be expected to follow state standards where appropriate
and to safely challenge their students to hit benchmarks geared towards their age, grade level and cognitive ability.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a BA or equivalent from a four-year college or university.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications.
- Embody high ethical standards and integrity.
- Maintain a record free of criminal violations. Must pass a criminal background check (BCI and FBI).
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Employees shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace during time of
employment.
- Meets all mandated health requirements.
- Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent/Treasurer and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

- Ensure safety of students.
- Teach and evaluate students using sound instructional practices.
- Effectively manage the classroom and individual students behavior to maintain a good learning environment.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards and
conferences.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
- Notify parents if a student is not meeting classroom goals.
- Teach harmony to students.
- Organize grade level programs.
- Provide supervision for all practices and performances.
- Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g. students grades
- Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
