Franklin High school is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Latin teacher for a one-year, 0.6 FTE position to teach Latin 3 and Latin 4. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Latin language and Roman culture, with the ability to engage students in meaningful language acquisition using the Suburani curriculum.
Responsibilities:
-Teach Latin 3 and Latin 4, incorporating reading comprehension, translation, and cultural studies.
-Utilize the Suburani curriculum to support student learning in a communicative and engaging manner.
Develop interactive and structured lessons that foster linguistic and historical understanding.
-Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback.
-Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learning styles.
-Collaborate with colleagues in the World Languages department to promote cross-disciplinary connections.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Classics, Latin, or a related field.
- Latin Massachusetts Teaching Licensure grades 5-12.
- Experience teaching Latin at the high school level.
- Strong knowledge of Latin grammar, literature, and Roman history.
- Ability to incorporate technology and modern pedagogical approaches into instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Familiarity with Suburani or experience with communicative Latin methodologies.
-Involvement in organizations such as the American Classical League (ACL) or National Latin Exam (NLE).
