POSITION: NURSE PRACTITIONER

JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering care within his/her license and training to Clinic patients as outlined in approved patient care protocols and under the supervision of a licensed physician.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to: Rural Health Clinic Director
Positions Directly Supervised: None
Regular Contact with: All Rural Health personnel, Physicians, and the public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Obtaining patient histories and performing physical exams.
- Documenting patient office visits which complete progress notes.
- Implementing treatment protocols approved by the supervising physician.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic intervention in the office and hospital setting.
- Is accountable and responsible for self directed actions.
- Works with all Clinic staff to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff and visitors
- Actively participates in the Clinic CQI activities.
- Maintains current basic CPR, ACLS, certification with a copy of file.
- Displays an overall positive attitude.
- Accepts constructive criticism and responds appropriately.
- Transmits feelings of concern. Is tactful, courteous, and professional to patients, family, and co-workers.
- Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, and fellow employees.
- Exhibits a professional, neat and clean appearance.
- Reports for duty on time and is prepared to assume duties.
- Notifies Clinic Administrator of unavoidable absenteeism as soon as possible before Clinic hours.
- Adheres to all Clinics infection control, hazardous waste, and pharmacy protocols.
- Follows all policies of the Clinic to include participation in reviewing/revision of Clinic policy yearly.
- Establish and review patient care policies.
- Review administrative policies.
- Provide services in accordance with those policies.
- Arrange for, or refer patients to, needed services that cannot be provided at the Clinic.
- Assure that adequate patient health records are maintained and transferred as required when patients are referred.
- Participate with a physician in a periodic review of the patients’ health records.
- Is responsible for maintaining records, ensuring they are completely and adequately documented. That they are readily accessible, and systematically organized.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:
Must be a Licensed Nurse Practitioner in the State of Louisiana. CPR and ACLS certified
Work Experience:
Experience desirable but not required.

- May remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Perform manual dexterity tasks such as taking vital signs, administering injections, and utilizing medical equipment
- Constantly position self, such as bending, stopping, etc. to maintain and access office and medical equipment and provide patient care.
- Operates a computer, office, and patient care machinery.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, coworkers, etc. via phone, in person, including the ability to clearly discern and respond to verbal inquiries, and exchange accurate information through conversation
- Ability to observe details at close range.
- Frequently move boxes, equipment, etc. weighing up to 20 pounds across the office for various needs.
- Frequently assist with lifting, transferring, or repositioning patients
OSHA EXPOSURE CATEGORY: A Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
