JOB SUMMARY
The Human Resources Manager is a member of the Conservatory’s HR team dedicated to building an inclusive and highly engaged workplace and aligning HR practices to support the Conservatory’s Mission, Vision, and Values. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources and works closely with the Human Resources Coordinator, the Conservatory’s people managers, and the staff. This role is specifically responsible for employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, learning and development, and payroll processing.
Additional Information: This is a full-time exempt position. This position is eligible for the Conservatory's benefit package offered to full-time employees, which includes medical, dental and vision insurance, company paid Life/AD&D/Short-Term and Long-Term Disability insurance, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement Program (OPERS), optional 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan, generous Paid Time Off (PTO), and complimentary membership to the Conservatory.
Compensation: $65,000 annual salary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees performance management program by maintaining job descriptions, coordinating annual evaluation process, coaching managers, and coordinating performance improvement plans where applicable.
- Manages routine HR matters including employee coaching, corrective action, workplace investigation, conflict resolution, harassment and/or discrimination claims, employee accommodations, and departmental structure changes. Works with the Director of HR on complex matters.
- Responsible for managing the Conservatory’s training and development initiatives. This includes researching, developing, and implementing training programs that offer employees continuous growth and advancement. Working collaboratively across the organization, this position maximizes our LMS potential and overall promotes a culture of continuous learning.
- Acts as the main point of contact for the Conservatory’s benefits broker, the health insurance consortium, and the health insurance carriers. Responsible for ensuring accurate benefits enrollment and billing, and leads the annual benefits open enrollment process.
- Manages the Conservatory’s payroll functions which includes the bi-weekly processing of payroll, carrier connection oversight, the proper withholding of taxes and deduction, and the accurate reporting of quarterly and annual tax documents.
- Responsible for administering the Conservatory’s retirement plans, including the monthly reporting of OPERS and 457(b) contributions.
- Interprets, communicates, and updates Conservatory policies and procedures.
- Assists with compensation management including participating in compensation planning, the payroll operating budget, payroll forecasting, performing research, communicating with managers, and maintaining tracking documents.
- Responsible for developing and monitoring the HR department operating budget.
- Actively engages as a participant in the Conservatory’s BIOME (Building Inclusive Opportunities for Meaningful Employment) Council and staff engagement committee (Tri-C).
- Responds to inquiries and information requests from accounting, finance, development, and department leaders; Assists with gathering information for annual audit and grant opportunities.
- Ensures compliance with OSHA, EEOC reporting, BWC true-ups, ACA annual filing and forms, and all other regulatory obligations.
- Acts as backup for Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Coordinator when they are unavailable.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum 5 years experience in a Human Resources generalist position; Proven experience with employee relations and payroll processing required.
- Experience at a nonprofit or arts/cultural organization preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications or related field.
- SHRM of HCRI certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
- Working knowledge and fundamental understanding of employee relations, performance management, labor laws, medical benefits, compensation, and employee engagement best practices.
- Knowledge of payroll operations including timekeeping practices.
- Knowledge of HR systems including Payroll/HRIS Systems, Applicant Tracking Systems, and Learning Management Systems.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; Familiarity with other Microsoft Products including Teams and Sharepoint a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities; Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization; Ability to provide excellent internal customer service.
