Position Summary :

Under the supervision of the Director, works with a broad spectrum of internal and external constituencies, both curricular and extracurricular, managing all Fitzwater Center audio production, including for podcasting, internet radio, studio and field productions, livestreaming, social media, special programming and events. Additionally, this position works directly as station manager with WFPC-LP 105.3 FM; it also provides support for Ravens Sports Network livestreaming. In doing so, this position opens the door to career paths in media for students across campus.

Essential Functions :

  • As the Associate Producer, handles all aspects of Fitzwater Center audio production, from pre-production through post-production, for studio and field productions, livestreams, podcasts, internet radio, pre-recorded content, social media, special projects, student / staff training and summer programming;
  • Designs and delivers professional development for students, staff and faculty;
  • Ensures the Fitzwater Center’s audio resources are in working order, facilitating and managing use by internal and external constituencies;
  • As WFPC-LP station manager, develops and delivers programming in sports, music and culture; recruits and trains staff; monitors the federal EAS system; develops underwriting capacity; and ensures compliance with the FCC and media laws and regulations.
  • Provides support for Ravens Sports Network livestreaming, working with other staff to cover the Ravens Athletic game schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.

WFPC-LP 105.3 FM is a 24 / 7 radio station, but required responsibilities will be scheduled to coordinate with the nights and weekend hours required for RSN. The position will have limited but regular daytime hours to facilitate work with the Fitzwater Center and University staff.

Additional Responsibilities :

  • Representing the Fitzwater Center to internal and external audiences and building relevant professional networks to advance the interests of the students, University, and the Fitzwater Center. Supervising and training graduate assistants and student workers, ensuring continuity of coverage year-to-year.
  • Working with the Fitzwater Center staff to deliver event programming, such as Commencement, The Fitzwater Honors and summer programming, such as The Presidency & The Press.
  • Building on the Fitzwater Center brand as an award-winning programming and content producer at both the professional and student levels by prioritizing submission of student work to competitions. Develop and maintain capacity to provide backup support in all aspects of production, including audio and video, editing, and content distribution.
  • Maintaining professional competency and currency of information through active participation in relevant national professional association, and by attending professional training and educational courses as directed, cultivation of professional contacts, and self-directed reading of relevant professional journals.
  • Encouraging student professional development by establishing and advising a student chapter of a relevant national professional association, potentially supervising student trips to professional conferences and meetings.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in broadcasting, sports journalism, journalism, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Preferred five years minimum experience in a broadcasting environment with demonstrated record of excellence in both creating compelling content and in media technology / production for audio, video and written formats.
  • Demonstrated mastery of various industry-standard applications, including the Adobe Creative Suite, audio and video editing tools, lighting, audio systems, and digital broadcast technology.
  • Superior troubleshooting experience.
  • Preferred experience supervising students in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment.
  • Proven skills in technical training and documentation preparation.
