SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER
Certified Officers receive a $20,000 sign on bonus
Annual Pay Range: $52,000-$72,000
Job Summary
The School Resource Officer (SRO) is primarily responsible for working within the Franklin school system to build positive relationships between administration, faculty, students, parents and the police while enforcing the laws and promoting a safe and drug free environment. The School Resource Officer will be required to perform the functions of a law enforcement officer and law-related counselor (the SRO will not be expected to engage in the responsibilities of a certified counselor) while becoming an integral member of the school community.
Supervision Received
The School Resource Officer works under the overall supervision of the Detective Sergeant who makes work assignments and evaluates work with the assistance of school system officials in terms of effectiveness of results. The SRO will be assigned detective duties during summer and school vacations as directed by the Detective Sergeant.
General Duties
Officers assigned to the position of School Resource Officer shall be responsible for the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities detailed in the job description for the position of SRO. The School Resource Officer job description is available upon request.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Police Officers assigned to this position shall possess the knowledge, skills and abilities incumbent upon Patrol Officers. In addition, the officer shall have a good working knowledge of the juvenile laws of the State of New Hampshire and must demonstrate an ability to verbally communicate effectively and relate positively to youths. Officers assigned as the SRO must be motivated to work with youth along with the ability to gain respect of adolescents and teenagers while holding them accountable for their actions.
Requirements
- Full time certified police officer with minimum of 3 years’ experience
- Must successfully pass an oral interview before a panel, which will include at least one representative from the Franklin School District.
- Must meet any other requirements as determined by the Chief of Police.

Certified Police Officer Applicants
The Franklin Police Department utilizes a modified application process for full-time Police Officers certified in NH or any other state. Applicants must pass a physical agility test, oral board or administrative interview, as well as an extensive background investigation. This process may be further modified at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
