Summary
The security officer reports to the Director of Security, and he / she is primarily responsible for protecting students, employees, visitors and school property. The Security Officer must act with the utmost integrity and vigilance to support the safe experience for all members of the FRA community.
Essential Functions
The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to :
- Assist with traffic control each morning from 7 : 00 a.m.-8 : 00a.m. and 2 : 30p.m.-3 : 30p.m. (this will require the officer to assist vehicles coming and going onto Franklin Rd.)
- Provide campus patrol (including parking areas) and summons administration, nurses, police, fire or first aid personnel as situations warrant.
- Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; uses keys to open and close buildings; monitors closed buildings for unauthorized persons and / or suspicious activities.
- Monitors the perimeter of the campus.
- Monitor campus cameras and assist with any video retrieval.
- Assist in the preparation of middle school car line.
- Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.
- Welcomes visitors to campus and provides directions or escorts visitors as necessary; provides other public assistance, such as lockout services.
- Have knowledge of fire systems, respond to alarms and take appropriate corrective action.
- Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and / or ambulance personnel, as required.
- Complete and submit reports concerning incidents, unusual occurrences and violations that might affect the safety and security of persons and property on campus.
- Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and / or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons and / or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and / or detain violators, as required, until police arrive.
- Attend large group assemblies (i.e. lunch, convocations, chapels etc.)
- Investigate issues on campus as needed.
- Assist for all home football games, select home basketball games and large spring athletic events.
Qualifications
Education / Experience The Campus Security Officer is committed to the safety and security of the FRA community with a joyful disposition. He / she must have law enforcement experience and work well in a community of pre-kindergarten through high school seniors. The Campus Security Officer must obtain a State of Tennessee Armed Security Guard license and any other appropriate credentials.
Physical Requirements
Ability to respond quickly to emergencies across campus, which may require walking, running, or climbing stairs. Capacity to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, as situations demand. Proficiency in operating security equipment and technology.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds; requires extensive amounts of walking, climbing and bending. In compliance with ADA requirements, we will make reasonable accommodations for the known disability of an otherwise qualified applicant.
