Athletic Director and Physical and Health Education Teacher

Position Overview

We are seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic High School Athletic Director and Physical and Health Education Teacher to begin in the Fall of 2025.
Responsibilities
- Program Leadership: Oversee the strategic development, administration, and evaluation of all interscholastic athletic programs for grades 9-12. Ensure that programs align with the school’ educational objectives and mission
- Coaching Oversight: Hire, train, and evaluate coaching staff for various sports. Ensure coaches are equipped to lead student-athletes with emphasis on safety, character development, and skill-building
- Scheduling & Coordination: Develop and manage athletic schedules, ensuring effective coordination of facilities, transportation, and other logistical needs. Maintain strong relationships with other schools and athletic organizations
- Budget Management: Create and manage the annual athletic budget, ensuring efficient use of resources. Oversee fundraising efforts for sports-related expenses and equipment
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and national athletic regulations. Implement safety protocols for all athletic activities, including physical assessments and injury prevention programs
- Event Management: Organize and oversee home athletic events, including games, tournaments, and school-wide spirit activities
- Community Engagement: Foster strong community relationships by promoting athletic events and student involvement. Engage with parents, alumni, and supporters to grow and sustain school spirit and participation
- Curriculum Development: Design and deliver a comprehensive physical education curriculum that engages students in lifelong fitness, health, and wellness, encouraging students to develop personal fitness plans and engage in various forms of exercise
- Instruction: Teach physical education classes for grades 9-12, ensuring that students acquire foundational skills in fitness, sports, and health education. Assessment: Monitor and assess student progress in physical education, providing regular feedback and conducting individual or group assessments of skills and fitness levels
- Health and Wellness Advocacy: Educate students on topics related to mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Promote a healthy lifestyle, emphasizing proper nutrition, fitness, and mental health strategies
- Collaborative Role: Work closely with other departments, including health education and science, to create an interdisciplinary approach to wellness education
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in athletic administration and/or physical education teaching, preferably in a private or independent school setting
- Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED certified (or willingness to obtain). Coaching certifications are a plus
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and teams
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with students, faculty, parents, and external organizations
- Experience in budgeting, event planning, and managing resources effectively
- Passion for student development and the ability to inspire student-athletes and physically active students
- Proficiency with Google Suites and athletic management software (e.g., scheduling and roster management tools)
- Experience coaching a variety of high school sports (team and/or individual)
- Familiarity with state and national athletic regulations and standards
- Previous experience in a supervisory role managing staff or teams
- Energetic and motivational, with a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive environment for student-athletes and students in physical education
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity, professionalism, and the ability to maintain a balanced approach to leadership and instruction
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage challenges effectively
- The Athletic Director & PHE Teacher is expected to attend and supervise athletic events and practices outside of school hours, including evenings and weekends
- In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the role may involve other duties as assigned by the Head of School/Principal
