Department Title : Undergrad Intern - Business Development

Location : The intern candidate must be able to commute into the New York City office each week.

Position Summary :

Fiduciary Trust International is a wealth management firm founded in 1931 by families for families, with a singular focus on growing and protecting our clients' wealth. Fiduciary Trust International delivers wealth management solutions for High net worth (HNW) clients, including individuals and families. We are part of Franklin Templeton, one of the largest investment firms in the world, which enables us to combine personalized experience with access to sophisticated research and investment solutions.

We are responsible for on boarding new clients; coordinating activities for referral sources and creating opportunities to identify new opportunities for all aspects of wealth management including : portfolio construction (active and passive), trust management, estate settlement, philanthropic / endowment, institutional.

You will be an integral part of the business development process from start to finish. There will be opportunities to engage with each of the Wealth Directors to learn best practices from a variety of sources and personalities. The Summer is a great time to engage with our referral sources so there will be many different events being planned during the internship, but the intern will also learn how to plan ahead of other Fall / Winter events. Average turnaround time for onboarding new clients is 4-6 weeks, so interns will be able to process and engage with prospective clients who will become actual clients. Each wealth director has a unique business plan, reviewed quarterly by Senior Management, including the Regional Managing Director and President of Fiduciary Trust. The intern will be able to engage in the dialogue for carrying out objectives outlined in the business plans for the Wealth Directors and the Business Development Associates. The intern will be a valued and contributing member of the team.

Team Culture :

Our team is unique because the current business development officers (called Wealth Directors) have varied backgrounds in terms of sales experience, e.g., attorneys, certified financial planners (CFPs), others have their MBA and some have worked in financial services prior to joining Fiduciary Trust. The intern will work with professionals across several offices : New York, Philadelphia, Florida (Boca Raton, Coral Gables and West Palm Beach), Atlanta, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Mateo and Lincoln, MA.

Collaboration is the key to success because the business development team focuses on many facets of the business and requires partnering with wealth directors in sales, portfolio managers in investments, trusts and estates counsel for fiduciary work, financial planning, presentation center and legal team to coordinate marketing slides / pitch books, and conducting research on potential leads with the lead generation team. There are additional opportunities to assist with account opening to understand the compliance metrics, and the ability to work with the events and sponsorship teams to plan and execute company-wide special events. There will be projects happening in each market, virtual and live, and meetings discussing business development activities on a weekly basis.

    Compensation Range : This is a full-time internship where students will work approximately 35 hours per week and earn competitive hourly pay of $31 USD per hour. There are several factors taken into consideration in making compensation decisions including but not limited to location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
