JOB TITLE: Seasonal Grounds Technician- Tier 1
NWS POSITION # Multiple
REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor
SUPERVISES: Assigned maintenance staff in multiple locations
EMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS: Classified/Non-Exempt/Hourly
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide a clean, comfortable and safe environment within an assigned school(s), associated buildings and adjacent grounds while promoting the mission of Franklin Township Community School Corporation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains and cares for school grounds and athletic fields.
- Cuts and maintains lawns with hand or power mowers.
- Prepares seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil or adding fertilizer or chemicals, if needed.
- Plants seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings and shrubbery.
- Rakes and maintains leaves, plants, flowers, trees or shrubs.
- Prunes trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.
- Mows, stripes, and assists in athletic field preparation and maintenance.
- Shovels snow from sidewalks, drives and parking lots.
- Spread sand, salt or other chemicals to prevent slipping.
- Performs general manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, lifting and moving materials.
- Assists a variety of functions with manual labor tasks as needed.
- Operates equipment and machinery in a fashion to provide a safe, natural environment.
- Maintains and adjusts equipment such as mowers, irrigation systems and trimmers.
- Repairs outdoor chairs, benches and other items as needed.
- Maintains a professional attitude and appositive relationship with stakeholders at all times.
- Promotes a harassment and discriminatory-free environment.
- Demonstrates a commitment to work.
- Ability to learn and upgrade job skills in order to meet changing demands of the position.
- Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS KNOWLEDGE OF:
- The use and operation of standard equipment.
- Standard operating procedures and practices.

- Able to perform, explain and demonstrate all facility functions

EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED recommended but not required
- Prior landscaping or equipment operator experience preferred but not required
- Valid Driver’s License preferred
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Seldom = Less than 25 % 2. Occasional = 26 to 50 %
3. Often = 51 to 75 % 4. Very Frequent = 76 % & above
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time. (1)
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. (1)
- Ability to carry 25 lbs.(1)
- Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. (4)
- Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matters. (4)
