Leave Replacement-School Psychologist

Holds or is eligible for New Jersey Certification authorizing service in the public schools as a School Psychologist.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

• The School Psychologist is a member of the basic Child Study Team and works within the school setting to assist and support teachers and administrators to enable then to deal with the educational needs of children. The school psychologist provides comprehensive psychological services that support students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral success. This role involves conducting assessments, facilitating IEP meetings, developing behavior plans, providing individual and group counseling, and collaborating with educators, parents, and service providers. The School Psychologist will also participate in MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) meetings, crisis management, and case management.

OBSERVATION, EVALUATION, AND ASSESSMENT OF STUDENTS:

• Participates in the evaluation, classification and placement of all pupils with special needs. Interprets the implications of assessments and participates in the educational planning for exceptional students.

INTERACTION WITH STUDENTS, PARENTS, SCHOOL, AND COMMUNITY:

• Plans home visits or office interviews with family members to assess students' needs.
• Consults with administration and staff regarding needs of students in schools, at home, and in the community.
• Counsels groups of students and/or parents regarding adjustment problems.
• Serves as case manager, as assigned, and maintains appropriate case records.
• Coordinates Parent Advisory Committee.
• Performs case management duties for all classified students.
• Writes Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) and develops individualized instructional guides with staff members responsible for each content area of the students' IEP.
