Assistant Hard Goods Buyer – Garden Center

We’re growing fast and looking for an assistant Hard Goods Buyer to join our team and help curate an exceptional selection of products for our customers.
Position Summary:
The assistant Hard Goods Buyer will learn and assist with the purchasing and inventory management of all non-plant retail products, including garden tools, pottery, home décor, seasonal décor, gifts, and landscape supplies. You will learn from the head buyer to have a keen eye for market trends, gain strong vendor relationships, and how to have a passion for creating a product mix that enhances our customers’ shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities and Learning Track:
- Product Selection & Buying:
- Source, select, and purchase hard goods that align with our brand, customer preferences, and seasonal trends.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, attending trade shows and industry events to discover new products.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers to maximize profitability.
- Inventory & Merchandising:
- Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability while minimizing excess inventory.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to create promotions and new arrivals to advertise.
- Monitor sales performance and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
- Make purchases with merchandising in mind
- Compelling merchandising of the product in store to create an unforgettable guest experience
- Vendor & Budget Management:
- Track purchasing budgets and ensure cost-effective procurement.
- Identify and onboard new vendors while maintaining strong relationships with existing suppliers.
- Work closely with the finance team to manage purchase orders, invoices, and pricing strategies.
- Market Research & Trend Analysis:
- Stay ahead of industry trends, competitor offerings, and customer preferences.
- Innovate and introduce new product lines to enhance the shopping experience.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Some experience in retail buying, purchasing, or procurement, preferably in garden centers, home décor, or outdoor living industries is preferred.
- Creativity and an artistic eye are very important. Merchandising or design background a plus.
- Strong negotiation, budgeting, and analytical skills.
- Some knowledge of garden-related hard goods and seasonal retail trends.
- Ability to build strong vendor relationships and possibly attend trade shows.
- Proficiency in inventory management software, computer literacy and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Passion for gardening, home décor, and outdoor living is a plus!

Wage DOE:
Full-time and part-time availability
