We are looking for skilled welders to join our team for an exciting temporary position that runs from January 15th through the end of April, working on Great Lakes vessels during the winter months.
Job Summary As a Welder at Fraser Shipyards, you will play a key role in building and repairing steel vessels, using your welding expertise to help create high-quality crafts. This hands-on position offers the opportunity to work in challenging, rewarding conditions, with exposure to the elements as you work on vessels for a range of customers. The work is fast-paced, fulfilling, and critical to the continued success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret detailed blueprints and engineering drawings to plan welding operations and ensure precision in every task.
- Weld components in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead) using MIG or TIG welding processes, focusing primarily on GMAW.
- Grind, clamp, and tack-weld parts to meet exact specifications, ensuring top-quality results.
- Operate a wide range of safety equipment and tools, strictly adhering to safety protocols.
- Use your expertise in welding and fabrication to produce flawless results with every weld.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues quickly, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
- Perform additional duties as needed to ensure team success and timely project completion.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Expertise in steel welding and fabrication, with a passion for high-quality craftsmanship.
- Knowledge of welding techniques and standard manufacturing practices in a shipbuilding environment.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and work under limited supervision.

Qualifications
- Previous welding experience in a similar environment preferred.
- Welding certificate or relevant technical school education is a plus.
- Must be able to pass a USCG/ABS weld qualification test prior to the second stage of the hiring process.
Physical Requirements
Position requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, overhead work, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces, such as accessing manholes, and awkward positions for long periods of time. Must be able to conduct inside and outside work in all temperatures. Use of manufacturing equipment. Work in environment where harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, gases, etc. might be present and the use of a respirator may be required. Ability to work in inclement weather conditions/areas that at times are not environmentally controlled. Able to move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs.
