Position Summary:
The Human Resources Specialist will provide direct support to the Associate VP of Human Resources including but not limited to recruitment and staffing, onboarding, orientation; employee relations; performance management, onboarding and offboarding; and review of policies/procedures. The Human Resources Specialist is expected to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, and constantly changing, environment. This position requires effective communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to utilize a variety of styles and approaches when working with FCC’s diverse population and stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Consults with the Associate Vice President of Human Resources on issues and problems.
2. Responds to requests for information and human resources-related inquiries.
3. Provides and submits reports on general HR activity.
4. Assists in Employee Relations matters.
5. Maintains employee files and records electronically.
6. Provides policy and procedure guidance to employees.
7. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements.
8. Collects job analysis data, identifies job requirements, and classes of work.
9. Assists with developing and updating job descriptions.
10. Participates in developing and updating human resources organizational guidelines and procedures.
11. Assists with performance management programs, retention, and employee recognition programs.
12. Builds and fosters an environment of support, teamwork and collaboration.
13. Acts as a backup for ASL interpretation requests.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
2. Two (2) years of Human Resources Specialist experience.
Desired Qualifications
1. Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
2. HR certification (SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP).
3. Handle workplace employee development programs.
4. Functional and technical experience with HRIS (e.g., PeopleSoft).
5. Experience with an applicant tracking system, ATS (e.g., PeopleAdmin).
6. Handle multiple competing priorities, meet deadlines, and perform independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
7. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate complex concepts to employees at all levels of the College, with the highest level of confidentially.
8. Customer service focus and effective team player.
9. Effective and clear communication with all levels of employees.
10. Maintain an ethical and strict confidentiality.
