POSITION DETAILS:
Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible); full-time; 40 hours per week; full-benefits; Evening Shift: Monday-Friday; 4:00 p.m.- 12:30 a.m. (shift differential eligible)
This position is responsible in accordance with establish protocol for routine cleaning duties in Frederick County parks and facilities as assigned. While performing this work, the Custodian must take all appropriate precautionary measures to ensure the environmental and sanitation safety of employees and visitors in the assigned buildings. While performing custodial services, the Custodian must take all appropriate precautionary measures to ensure the environmental and sanitation safety of employees and visitors in the assigned buildings. Applicants must be able to work and make decision independently. Supervision is received from his/her Lead Custodian, Custodial Services Supervisor, and/or the Facility Services Manager.
NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions. For transfers and promotions, wage rates are calculated per County policy.

- Sweep, mop, scrub, strip and polish floors
- Clean and maintain carpeted areas
- Wash walls, windows, stairways and woodwork (which may require working from a ladder)
- Dust and polish furniture and equipment
- Move and arrange furniture and equipment
- Clean, sanitize and deodorize restrooms and restock restroom supplies
- Empty wastebaskets and remove trash inside the building and also around the outside of the building
- Empty containers for paper and other materials set aside for the County recycling program, bring recyclables to the designated collection area and place in appropriate storage containers
- As needed, operate a large van to transport supplies and equipment between County facilities
- Report damage and potential hazards to the Lead Custodian in charge, Building Manager and/or Facility Services Manager
- Perform custodial duties outside of assigned building(s) as needed
- Close and secure doors, turn off lights, and exercise energy conservation measures as appropriate
- Attend team meetings as required
- Perform other related duties as required

- High school graduation or the equivalent
- Possession of valid automobile operator's license
- Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
- Knowledge of proper types of custodial equipment, cleaning agents, sanitizing chemicals and protective gear to use in all types of cleaning work, and the ability to use them safely
- Knowledge of (or ability to learn) the use and operation of a high-speed buffer, standard buffer, vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor and other related equipment
- Ability to understand and follow written and spoken (English) instructions
- Ability effectively organize work, determine priorities and complete assigned duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to develop, maintain, and promote cooperative, professional and effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
- Previous custodial/janitorial work experience
- While working in this position, the employee is constantly walking, moving or traversing, crawling, lifting up to 20 pounds, pushing over 40 pounds, pulling up to 40 pounds, reaching and making repetitive motions; frequently climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting between 20-50 pounds; occasionally lifting over 50 pounds, pushing over 40 pounds, and pulling over 40 pounds; rarely sitting and driving.
- While working in this position, the employee is constantly working indoors, in dusty environments exposed to chemicals, fumes, and potentially exposed to infectious diseases and required to wear protective equipment; frequently working in dirty areas; occasionally working outdoors, in temperatures above 100 degrees and in temperatures below 32 degrees; rarely working at heights.
- Ability to provide own transportation when needed
- Available for weekend and holiday work hours, as needed
- Available for a minimum of three mandatory Parks and Recreation events
- Ability and availability to work irregular hours as needed
