What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician III-IV Electrical position at Frederick County Government?
This skilled position is responsible for performing electrical system installation, maintenance and repair of equipment in all County buildings. Primary job function will be working with van technicians traveling to various County buildings performing daily repairs and preventive maintenance. Supervision is received from the Lead Maintenance Technician.
NOTE: The upper pay range reflects possible wage rates for internal County transfers and promotions. For transfers and promotions, wage rates are calculated per County policy.

- Assist with and perform the installation of new service and/or renovation of existing service in County buildings
- Assist with and perform the installation of cable, conduit, outlets, fixtures, switches, controls, circuit, boxes and other construction related electrical tasks
- Perform, record and track the progress of electrical PM's in County Buildings
- Maintain preventative maintenance information and results electronically
- Assist other trades with installations, maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as needed
- Maintain records of jobs completed and materials used
- Move equipment and furniture when necessary
- Perform other related duties as required
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN III REQUIREMENTS ($25.70-$41.13 per hour):
- High school diploma or the equivalency
- Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
- Minimum 5 years of commercial electric work experience
- Possession of a current Maryland State Electrical Journeyman license
- High school diploma or the equivalency
- Possession of a valid automobile operator's license
- Minimum 7 years of commercial electric work experience
- Possession of a current Maryland State Electrical Master license
- Ability to maintain County Authorized Driver privileges
- Working knowledge of methods and techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical tasks and maintenance
- Knowledge of hazards associated with electrical and other building maintenance work, with ability to recognize and employ appropriate safety measures
- Ability to use a computer and work in Microsoft office programs
- Ability to perform the duties of other building maintenance trades
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public
- Effective spoken and written (English) communication skills, including the ability to accurately prepare and maintain related forms and reports
- While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly walk and drive; frequently lift up to 50 pounds, reach and perform repetitive motions; occasionally sit, climb, stoop, lift over 50 pounds, and push and pull up to and over 40 pounds; and rarely crawl. Employee will regularly operate vehicles weighing over 10,000 lbs.
- While working in this position, the employee is required to constantly work indoors, walk on uneven ground; occasionally work near chemicals / fumes and is required to wear protective equipment; occasionally work dirty, duty and noisy environments, and work at heights; and work out doors, work in hot temperatures (above 100 degrees), work in cold temperatures (below 32 degrees), work in confined spaces, work below grade level, work near machinery and has a potential exposure to infectious diseases.
- Available for varied working hours as needed and available for on call emergency situations
- All current licenses must be maintained throughout employment and on file with the County and City for the purpose of obtaining permits for County work
- This position is subject to assignment to a public safety complex. Positions assigned to public safety complexes will be required to successfully pass a background investigation as determined by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. Failure to pass the background investigation may result in termination of employment or revocation of the job offer.
EXAMINATION PROCESS (may include):
1) An evaluation of training and experience
2) One or more interviews
3) A DOT pre-employment physical examination
4) A pre-employment background investigation through use of a public records search
5) A DOT drug testing (for applicants hired with a CDL license)
